I have a 1996 Tacoma 2.7L 4CYL 3RZ. Years and years ago I had problems had the head done. Ran fine for a bit then started having problems again. Vehicle started hiccuping and throwing misfire codes. Replaced spark plugs, cables, rotor cap, cool pack, fuel filter and still did not fix the problem. Took it in got it diagnosed with burnt exhaust valves. Didn't have the money to fix it right away so it sat for about 2 years maybe little more. Recently I just replaced the head with a brand new one ( all exhaust valves burnt and 2 cracks in the head) with new cams and valves all pre adjusted ready to install. Put new injectors in and gaskets as well with the head. Truck idled fine for about 2 hours the first day and 1.5-2 the second day and ran way better than before. Thinking problem solved went to test drive it and it started the hiccuping/jerking while driving again. Drove it for about 8-10 miles then at low speed through a parking lot (A/C on) it stalled out after very fast hiccuping and sputtering almost like it ran out of fuel. (Keep in mind fuel is 1.5-2.5 years old approximately) The truck would then not want to turn over just cranks. The check engine light flashed on and off in sync with ist sputters then remained on after the truck was off and keywas out of the ignition. Any help is greatly appreciated as it is hard for me to go to a auto store for parts or to diagnose check engine lights because my nearest town is 1.5 hours away I live in a very small rural area so I'd have to tow it.
