Hi yall, figure I should introduce myself and ask a few questions.

Short back ground, born in Baton Rouge, family moved to Atl when I was three, moving back to Louisiana in July since GF got into UNO grad school.
Ive currently got a 07 prerunner access cab sr5 trd sport, but hoping to pick up a 2nd gen dclb 4x4 sr5 trd sport before the move.
Jobs, indie bookstore for 8 years, scooter/motorcycle shop for 2 years, car shop for a few months now.
For fun, reading sci-fi and mystery mainly, building stuff primarily woodworking but would love to learn to weld, camping and wheeling trips, hence why I want the 4x4.

    Questions
Firstly how's the wheeling community here? And how often do yall do trips? In GA we have a few hardcore guys but it's hard to get more then 3 or 4 people per trip with scheduling.
Second, we're coming down over extended memorial day weekend to look for places to rent, any rental/management companies that are horid, any that are great? We're planning on looking within 15 miles from UNO. This is what would be best to know from yall.
Lastly how is traffic in New Orleans, Atl is often hellish, maybe you heard of our recent interstates attempting suicide, travel times are doubled through 85 area now.

Cheers, see y'all in a few months

    Welcome back to Louisiana!

I live in BR, so not gonna be much help on the rental and traffic info. NOLA traffic can't be as bad as ATL right?

It seems that most of Louisiana has migrated to Facebook. The groups below should get you a pretty good start.

There are quite a few members in Louisiana. But everybody is scattered across the state so get togethers are hard to do.

As @Tsumara said, everybody uses Facebook more actively there.

Plenty of places to "wheel" although they are not intended for such.

WMAs are everywhere and prolly your most accessible avenue for that part of the state.

Kisatchie National Forest will be 3-4hrs North of you. Plenty of space to get lost in.

Homochitto National Forest in Mississippi has some cool spots too.

I've got a list of places to explore. Theres more than meets the eye, that's for sure.

Not sure what a WMA is, I don't mind a 2-3 hour drive both ways cause I usually camp so it's not bad. What type of wheeling do yall have, GA is largely mountains and rocky stuff with some mud but not much you can really sink into, are LA trails very swampy?

    WMA = wildlife management area
Prinarily designated for hunting/fishing but has additional recreation uses...camping, hiking, etc.
All you need is a hunting or fishing license and to fill out the check-in form.

Wheeling can range from hard pack dirt to mud hole, depends on time of year and where it is.

Welcome back OP, glad to see you moving to the best state.
I've had the pleasure of driving through NO a few times, and I'd say traffic is about the same as most major cities like that, I live in Lafayette and I think the traffic here is worse, but probably because spend time in it the most. With that, I made a road trip to Georgia once, only time I've ever been there, and did not go into Atlanta, and I think it was definitely more there. But this was mostly all Interstate, with really really small back roads(?). Had an 18-wheeler follow so close on my bumper If I would have breathed on the brake pedal, he would have killed us.
Also, maybe someone else can chime in, It seems like pretty much everything North of 1-10 is forest and dirt roads.

I believe you mean to say it changes from day to day, rather than time of year. The weather/rains are so random out here, its pretty 50/50 on whether its dirt or mud lol
