For Sale, used red NST Crank pulley. Pulley has been sleeved. Some slight scarring on anodizing.

Suggest replacing crank seal during installation (not included).

Price is $100 shipped to lower 48 states.

What are the advantages for this? How does it differ from stock?

Stock is steel. This is aluminum. The lighter weight allows the engine to rev faster.

You might try NST web site.

It is similar to using a light flywheel. Less rotating mass. Faster revs.

Aluminum is roughly 1/3 the weight of steel.

One of the failings of these pulleys, is the oil seal would cut a groove on the aluminum and make it leak.

    Look at this pic.
    NST%20004_zpsniqc66in_a3c43188ddc17c78b75519cca1968190597ee617.jpg

There is a steel sleeve over the aluminum to prevent that from happening.

    After sleeving.

No need to replace the crank seal if just replacing the secondary crankshaft pulley in a supercharged rig correct?

That is correct. You would only do it if you had some oil leakage.

How do you prevent this if you're starting with a brand new set?

The later ones NST made were sleeved. Take a pic of the back side of the pulley and send it to me and I will tell you if it is sleeved.

    Not really.

It happens on other makes of engines as well. The spring loaded seal that seals on the pulley cuts into the aluminum over time. Most factory pulleys are steel. The seal will cut into this as well, but since the steel is much harder, it takes much longer to be a problem. Or maybe never be a problem.

Not to thread jack but they are still making them, I purchased a crank pulley in March that I won't be installing since it's the wrong color. They released the water pump pulley also so I ordered a whole set but in a different color. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/fs-new-nst-lightweight-crank-pulley.490766/

This is a stock steel pulley. I just wanted to show you, the seal will cut a steel pulley too.
    2010March048_0c598505b1fccaa557016f1479e4eec209e638d6.jpg

This is an used NST pulley with a deep groove cut into it. This pulley was not sleeved from NST.

    NST%20004_zpsniqc66in_a3c43188ddc17c78b75519cca1968190597ee617.jpg

This is the sleeve I used. Bore is correct, but is too long. I will address that a little latter.
    2010March045_6f6cbbfd15070988aa03fb022c0c6b8697435fd6.jpg

    Pick up a new seal.

    2010March054_770ed14366d74708fad92b67f2793f5691e30ca8.jpg

    This is the steel sleeve.

This is the installation tool that comes with the sleeve.

    NST%20005_zpsatidtbqj_3e4e754ea6def08e4fc1767f9c6b94568985184d.jpg

    PULLEYSLEEVE1_1b306844910abc830709848ae6ddf9d5e7f5c7b7.jpg

I use a scotch brite to start with and knock off any sharp edges on the end of the pulley that the sleeve is going over.

Start the sleeve over the end of the pulley.

    2010March038_867db243ee00549a541e25dd224d0b229fb33993.jpg

    2010March036_069d50fa696f15a48c64d7eca13ce4de572733c4.jpg

Put the installation tool over the sleeve and tap into place with a hammer.
    PULLEYSLEEVE2_50eadf8ef1c292125c80532e750ed1b345c45ee7.jpg

You will bottom the flange of the sleeve out onto the pulley. When you do this, you will notice the sleeve is a little too long.

    PULLEYSLEEVE3_d25cbb6c38fb074a7f705135cbe87e845295c82d.jpg

I used a Dremel tool with a cone and slowly worked around the edge of the sleeve.

This will also work with a steel pulley.

When you install the new seal, oil the surfaces with motor oil, so the surfaces will not be dry at start up.
