Most dehydrators are pretty good. All they do is move air around. some add heat to faster drying. Some have a timer... But they all do the same thing generally.

Its a low cost way to see if it will work for you, Id get it!

Most everything can be dried. Avoid greasy/oily foods as the oils don't dry. All veggies, fruits (sometimes you need to ad pectin to keep from browning - like apples do).
I dry cooked chicken breast (diced or shredded), browned ground beef (fat drained off afterwards), tuna.

Theres recipes all over the internet.

Nothing will be gourmet, get used to that, but some meals on the trail are just too yummy! (Heck, most trail food is great when you're hungry!)
    kinda-shepherds pie:
    Instant mashed potatoes
    dried ground beef
    dried green peas
    dried carrots
    powdered cheese
    powdered gravy mix

Stove Top & dried chicken cubes is very filling!

    Dried tuna added to ramen

    Black beans (or peas)
Yellow rice (cooked at home, dried, rehydrated on trail)
    diced dried chicken
    adobo seasoning

All your rices and pastas, cook at home according to directions and then dry. They rehydrate much better if precooked.

Doing a trip to Hamilton Lakes this weekend. Will be my first trip of the year. Excited to finally get out! Anyone know if fires are permitted there? I guess I could just call the ranger station. hahaha

Yup. Sequoia. Its been years since I've been up there. Going this weekend and again June 23rd. 23rd will be a walk in campsite though since ill be taking my parents on their first camping trip and finally fulfilling my dads dream of seeing the giant trees. He was very sad last year to see how brown Yosemite was.

Have a backup plan. Many (Most) of all walk up sites (across the state!) are usually spoken for by Wednesday or Thursday. Families are known to send one person in to claim a site and stay there until everyone else arrives...

EDIT. disregard. I read that wrong. If you have a reservation for this weekend, you're good to go!

Anyone know an REI online discount code apart from "ANNV17" that I can use to save a little money?

My lady & I were recently in Kings Canyon and we saw some pretty big trees. We thought about driving down to the Sequoia NF via the Generals Highway on our final day up there to see General Sherman but we went on a longer hike around the Grant Grove area instead. Glad we stayed, our payoff was a panoramic view of Kings Canyon. I waiting quite some time to see those big trees myself...it's pretty awesome of you taking your dad up there!

Custom gas line place said they've seen the stoves before and only way to modify it is cut up the inside stuff and put normal fittings on it.

They tried a few fittings and even the thread is some strange bullshit that they can't match... It fits but not tight. Other than ordering the same custom sized stuff.

Tried a place that stocks the stoves and no dice.

That's the only one they have. IF you already used your account just find a friend that still has a coupon available.

Ive found that if I shop in-store and get my discount, I can still go online and use it. (I've only done that within a day of each, don't know if you waited a week apart...)

If theres a discount on anything, I can usually find it. I also bundle it thru other rewards programs. (Southwest & Amtrak both have online shopping perks that earn miles/points towards tickets. Southwest also has a dining rewards. Just add your CC # to the program and any time its used at one of the participating restaurants, you get points! -does not have to be a SW logo card. We eat out quite frequently... And my Amex is a cash back/rewards plan too.)
