3rd Gen Oil Leak

Oil level sensor failed. "First time I've seen that happen," said my service manager.

First my rear differential needed replacement, then my Taco stalled in the fast lane on the freeway (Crank position sensor), now my oil leak from the oil level sensor. And that's with only 10,000 miles on my 2016. Not even counting all the howls, and squeezing brakes, thudding at stop lights, etc. Man I really wanted to love my truck. But it just didn't love me in return. I hope the rest of you fare better than I did.

Sadly, I'm done with this truck. TacomaWorld, it's been fun. But I'll be hanging out with the 4runner gang from now on.

You can still hang out here. Lots of T4R owners here because the T4R forums are slow or lame. We're neither.

 

I switched to a T4R as well, never been happier!

 

I need a bed or I guess don't NEED, but use the bed often . In all seriousness, that is why I went Tacoma I wanted/use a pickup often. Also, a manual is no longer available in the 4R.

4Runners Rock! And made in Japan, hmmm, wonder if that makes any difference? If you can get by without a bed behind you a 4Runner is an excellent, reliable choice. Congrats OP, smooth move.

 

I am almost certain that it does make a difference, maybe not huge, but a difference none the less. Japanese culture is to do the right thing when nobody is looking. Most of the rest of the world is to do whatever is convenient when nobody is looking. Of course design trumps all, but build quality is important too.

Same here! I still like to hang out here, it stays active and keeps me up on whether toyota fixes these issues for those with problems. If they get things straightened out, in a few years I may try another taco cuz I do love those trucks.

Runner - First thank you for your Service!! I greatly appreciate anyone who does this type of commitment. Secondly, we will see with reliability on the Taco, luckily mine has been perfect at ~7700mi, whihc it still is a baby. We all know the 4R is very solid SUV. Thirdly, what I contest is the 4R being more of a brtue. Taco can haul more, tow more and according to Edmunds.com has a lower cost of ownership. Off-roading I can't answer that, I personally haven't romped either the taco or runner.

 

Not sure if someone else had already mentioned it but there is no reason to Leave Tacoma World just because you got rid of your Tacoma.

 

Good luck switching. I have found , after owning several modern Toyotas , that they all have there unique issues. I use to be very OCD about said issues , but then I realized at the end of the day , they are just vehicles..

4Runner will have issues, FJ will have issues , Tundra will have issues.. i've owned all of them. Heck my wife's Lexus GX has issues .

I've learned to roll with the punches and not sweat it.

 

My wife's 2016 4Runnner has been flawless.

My 2016 Tacoma has made me "Most Frequent Customer" at my Dealership Service Dept.

 

i love the crap out of my truck. but it's also true that if the 4R is available MT style then I'd be in one.
