Hey guys, new to the forum and have a few FNG questions. I finally got my Dad to sell me his 2011 Tacoma Double cab TRD Off-Road as I have always loved the truck. Now that she is finally mine I plan on starting my own build beginning with the suspension. I just ordered an Icon Stage 1 with AALs, and after doing more research, realized it would be important to upgrade the UCAs at the same time. I've read a lot of good things about the Total Chaos UCAs, but is there any benefit to getting the Icon tubular UCAs to keep it an all Icon setup? I plan on putting 285/75R16 BFG KO2s on after the lift. Thanks in advance!

the real question is do you need a uniball setup? Looks like you are in a nastier climate, where a sealed ball joint might be a better option. Something like the SPC arm or the JBA one... not only do they have more flex than a uniball but they use a sealed uniball that requires much less maintenance.

Haha not quite, we only get one to two good snows a year here in central Virginia. Thanks for the input though, I'll look into SPC and JBA.

New to the game so if you don't mind me asking, what are the benefits of a delta joint vs a uniball? Icon's website currently has them listed "Coming Soon" at $839.95

Well I read the description on the website, seems pretty legit, any ideas on the timeframe for the release?

delta joint is just a fancy name for a ball joint. move along.

unless you truly need the absolute strength of the uniball.... the SPC / JBA offerings are IMO superior as they will provide a much longer life.

Dont even bother with the camburg ball joint tublar UCA, it uses the stock ball joint which has shit for flex.

I went with Icon UCA and I am having issues with the Unibal. After back and forth emails with them the conclusion was there was an issue with the mfg process and the uniballs are way too tight. After 7000 miles with them on they steering still doesn't self center in turns and making all kinds of noises. It's a real bummer because the only solution is replacing them or dealing with the issues. They said that they might continue to break in and eventually heal itself out. They are Sending another set of bearings out to me but what a pain in the ass. Last truck I had icon shocks with total chaos UCA with no issues.

I live in the rust belt, and have had zero issues with my TC uca's. I drove with them for 5 years in New England's most "welcoming" winter months, and it only took an afternoon last summer to press in new uniballs. 5+ years for a few hours work with home brewed tools? You'll be fine. If ya don't like the color, rattle can that s***. The old uniballs were chrome plated and did start pitting, but they've since switched to stainless. That shouldn't be an issue anymore if you're concerned.

For what it's worth, I'm running JBAs with icon extend travels for 3 full inches of lift. Still have plenty of down travel. They were much cheaper than icons or TC. I'll post pics in the morning.

Typical shitty Icon customer service. 7k miles and they want you to wait it out to see if their defective product will fix itself so they don't have to warranty it.

I don't see what the steering has to do with the arms though.

Bearings are so tight and there's resistance when turning and bearings "snap"when steering applied.

As promised, here are a few pics running Icon extended travel coilovers with JBA UCAs. I've been very happy so far! I want to say I paid something like $450 for them brand new from the JBA website.
