Straight piped my 3.4L V6.. Took the cat and muffler out and ran it out the side (Like shown in picture) noticed a loss in power. Anyone offer some input on this? Is this a bad thing?

Roll tide :pccoffee:... fwiw my exhaust exits about right there but I do have a glass pack, and a turbo, and short tube headers... and a 4.0 so this is basically me just bragging now and almost no help at all haha I am not noticing a power loss. they claim that there needs to be some back pressure so the exhaust valves close completely or there is a loss in low end without some forced induction

You lose low end tq but gain high rpm HP. We really only use low rpms so that might be what you notice.

Either way its usually such a small gain or loss it's not noticeable.

That thing has to sound God awful. Sound clip?

Put the cat back on for some amount of back pressure. I assume your running an o2 simulator?

Get a glass pack... Its still gonna be plenty loud but it will cut just a bit of that "hick crack pop" that usually occurs with just str8 pipes, and it will add a touch of back pressure... Then throw a turbo on it

I wouldnt worry about replacing the cats man u can get the same back pressure with a muffler for less than half the cost

Most can be had with flared ends and will slip over ur exhaust pipe. So just take a zip saw and cut out a straight section of pipe and replace it with the muffler and clamp in on. Or go to a mod day where someone has a welder and get them to run 2 beads for u

Reviving the thread hopefully. My Tacoma is staright piped with a single black widow. Doesn’t sound too bad just super loud in the cab. Trying to figure out what muffler would sound the best without buying and trying a bunch on setups.
