So, if I read this right, the underlying problem is that bolts might have been undertorqued, thus causing leakage?

Yes and know. I think that's what they're saying but that is 100 percent NOT what happened to mine twice. I haven't had my truck for 4 weeks. No end in sight. Just want out of this bullshit.

Rear diff blew on me today at 49k in Darcy BC. Prior warranty issues now amount to:
    -2 pulleys
-Dealer forgot to install mud guards
-failure of crank position sensor; dealer replaced entire fuel tank then I drove off the lot only to break down and all sensors went off. After days of talks with Toyota Canada they rented me a truck so we were no longer stranded on our family vacation
-pulsating brakes;dealer turned discs on warranty
-seized right calipar; dealer tried to charge me but then covered it
-front passenger bed bolt came loose causing truck bed to jump off rails last week. Had recall issue of rear diff bolts checked and was all okay. Took 3 dealers until someone would tighten down the bed bolt
-what appears to be a blown diff. Was in 2wh and just had shifted into 4wh to head up gravel road.

This Taco is just that. An unreliable piece of junk in a cracked taco shell from a street vendor. Had a 2006 with no problems. Can't rely on it for work or pleasure. Constantly being stranded by it.

Only deal with Toyota Canada as dealers generally won't do anything

    Going full size diesel

    ***UPDATE***
Day 42 and no end in sight. Truck still parked at dealer and Toyota says they are in the very preliminary stage of the recall.

I would have called corporate over the mud guard.
    That's terrible.
