Snapped a lug on my last tire rotation.

IS it possible to take the caliper off without removing those stupid guide pins? I need to get the rotor off to get at the hub to put in the new stud.

Those guide pins are frozen solid after 70k.....(again)

I dont have an air hammer but i do have a sawzall and a small sledge. Id rather not go that route.

It was done on a newer 4Runner but it should be the same concept.

well.....the caliper is off and hanging. No pin removal required....both brake hose bracket holders broke off as if they were made of butter and that was after a long night soak in pb blaster. Just too damn rusty. Nice design.....

Now for getting the rotor off.

easy....probably one of the easiest jobs ive done.

I got crazy and tried to move the pins thinking i could get them out. Top one came out after some work but there is NO way the bottom one is comming out. The backside is a bit mushroomed now too from the punch i was using. This one will likely have to be cut and drilled. Good thing my pads appear to still have 90% life in them. Ill let someone else deal with that when the time comes i guess. I replaced the top one with a new pin since i had the kit and it went back in no problem. I really wish i could get that bottom one out. Even if it was cut out you would need a LONG drill bit to get all the way down to where it feeds into the back part of the caliper. If you came at it from the back side you would likely need to take the caliper off......which is worthless because to rebleed you would need to get the bleeder loose and that looks more hopeless than the pin itself. At that point, it would just be new calipers.

Not sure what there is to see in the pictures but here you go.

    1. rotor off / broken stud
    2. stud out (tapped out very easy)
    3. rotor back on (completed
    4. showing rotor off to see the hub and all the room you have to work with. No issues getting the stud in from the back side like mentioned in the video.
