The Tale of the Monkeys


Start with a cage containing five monkeys. Inside the cage, hang a banana on a string from the top and then place a set of stairs under the banana. Before long a monkey will go to the stairs and climb toward the banana.

As soon as he touches the stairs, you spray all the other monkeys with cold water. After a while another monkey makes an attempt with same result ... all the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water. Pretty soon when another monkey tries to climb the stairs, the other monkeys will try to prevent it.

Now, put the cold water away. Remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new monkey sees the banana and attempts to climb the stairs. To his shock, all of the other monkeys beat the crap out of him.

After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs he will be assaulted.

Next, remove another of the original five monkeys, replacing it with a new one. The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment... with enthusiasm.

Then, replace a third original monkey with a new one, followed by a fourth, then the fifth. Every time the newest monkey takes to the stairs he is attacked. Most of the monkeys that are beating him up have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs. Neither do they know why they are participating in the beating of the newest monkey.

Finally, having replaced all of the original monkeys, none of the remaining monkeys will have ever been sprayed with cold water. Nevertheless, none of the monkeys will try to climb the stairway for the banana.

Why, you ask? Because in their minds...that is the way it has always been.

This, my friends, is how Congress operates and is why, from time to time, all of the monkeys need to be REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME.

Me and the Mrs. at the Alamo last Friday. We were in San Antonio for our niece's graduation. (Doctorate in Physical Therapy).

Ordered some switches from CH 4X4. Their website is EXTREMELY difficult to use and place an order.

 

So my wife gets a call at work yesterday. It was from the nursing home in West Virginia where her 92-year-old mother has been living for the past year. They said she was having trouble breathing. Her Oxygen level was down in the 70s; normal is in the 90s. The doctor made a preliminary diagnosis of Bilateral Pulmonary Edema or Pneumonia. Or both. They took her to the hospital and did a CAT scan of her chest last night. I do not yet know the results of the scan. She is still in the hospital as of this morning.

Things are looking grim. Stay tuned.

 

Finally, another step forward. After two unsuccessful tries I finally got a Bussman unit and Circuit Breaker. A big thanks to @paranoid56 for his assistance and making a panel that fit around that big-assed master cylinder. Now all I need is something to hook it up to.

 

It's amazing how much work you can get done when your wife is out of town.

Installed a Pop-N-Lock lockable tailgate handle. Went in very easy; directions were very clear and concise. Only took about 1/2 hour.

Now I can lock my tailgate so I won't get my shit stolen.

Update on Mum-In-Law. She is still in the hospital but is doing better. She is breathing on her own and eating solid food again. (When she is willing to eat. There is no cure for orneriness when you are 92.)

 

Another productive day at the Dog House. It's amazing how much you can get done when the wife is out of town.

First up, A few weeks ago I did a mod where I hardwired a GPS power supply behind the dash and ran the power cable out through the defroster vent. It was wired up such that the power supply was always on even if I wasn't using the GPS. I decided that was not a good idea so I ordered a switch from CH4X4 and installed it in a spare spot in the switch bank at the head of the center console.



Then on to the bed. I had bought a set of LED strips from @mattgecko with the intent of powering them off the same power wire that powered the light in the shell. Then I discovered that whoever installed the shell tapped power off a tail light wire. In other words, the shell light would only work if the headlight (and tail lights) were turned on.

WTF?

So the first thing I had to do was find a new power source that was always hot. But there weren't any. So I ended up running a wire from the battery to the rear of the truck. This meant crawling under the truck (more than once) and I don't bend like I used to. But I finally got it done and hooked up the wires. Amazingly, it worked the first time I turned it on.



The power switch for the LEDs is mounted in the same recess as the AC outlet.

 

More Deep Thoughts from a Shallow Mind.

What if human beings had a tail like other members of the animal kingdom? And if you had one, would you be allowed to show it in public or would you have to cover it up?

Would it be a usable appendage like on a monkey, or would it just hang there? If it were usable, you could use it to wipe your butt. Or at the bar you could grab a woman's booty from three stools away. In the gym maybe you could wrap it around a crossbar and do "tail-ups."

If you were a woman, would you tie a little pink bow on it? Would the Goth-types get it pierced? Clothing would take on a whole new dimension. I figure women in skirts would have no problem, but it could make for some very odd-looking trousers. And would it be uncomfortable to sit on during those long days at the office?

In a football game, would it be a 5 or 15 yard penalty for grabbing another player's tail to make a tackle?

Would a guy's "manliness" be judged by the size of his tail? Would some pharmaceutical company invent a drug called "Tail-agra?" Might a woman give a man a "tail job"? I guess "getting some tail" would take on a whole new meaning, wouldn't it?

I'm just sayin'...

 

Well, you had a tail, but for some reason that genetic switch gets shut off in all apes.....thus no tail for us and no need for a hole in your tacoma seat....

The Icon's were on the truck when I bought it. I have not any problems that I'm aware of.

Got it installed. The physical installation, anyway. The next challenge will be to figure out how to connect the wiring to that Bussman relay/fuse panel I bought. If anyone has done that, your advice is most welcome.
