    Cardinal update:

    Interior is 100%
All that is left to do from the firewall forward is to install the exhaust, alternator and forward baffle. If all goes according to plan, this thing will run tomorrow! :woot:

Only so many monitors I can run....though I use a head mounted unit called TrackIR that follows my head movements so if i move my head left the front monitor view moves left....it tracks in 6 degrees of movement...pretty sweet once u get use to it. If you watch the main screen in this video you can see it views change as my head moves around.

Pretty nice. Does it have a "look up" capability too?

Had a shitty landing yesterday so went up this morning to redeem myself before the wind got too crazy... only a .5 but got 3 good crosswind landings in.

Basicly looks any direction you look. The sim does limit how far you can turn your head based on how far they think your head could move in real life.

Pretty sweet sims for work. Love to get into those someday. I got to fly the C-17 simulator (non-motion) at Mcdonnell Douglas back in the early 90's. What a piece of cake to fly and land considering it has a HUD and you just fly it into the ground...no flare needed :) I have another video here that is a direct capture that shows the view movement a lot better. So basically if the view moves it is my head position that is doing it. Except when you see the ground(outside world) zoom in and out. I have that mapped to a slider type control on my throttle. If i lean forward or backwards the headtracking only moves me closer or farther to just the cockpit items. Hopefully that makes some sense. The vid below is the AJS37 Viggen. Ive got labels on the ground targets and the ordinance because I was just learning how to use the weapons system on that aircraft and how to employ its cluster munitions. When I fly online with buddies you either gotta find them with ground radar or look out the windows.

    Thursday Cardinal update:

The engine is now 100% and we had the ground run today. The thing ran so smoothly and didn't leak a drop! I am extremely happy and relieved that it ran. The feeling of hearing the engine roar to life after doing the top overhaul myself was amazing! Now all that's left are little things, some door stewards, a baggage door seal, cowling repair, and I have to move a spring for the baffle that's hitting an oil return line.

    It's FRIIIIIDAYYYY

The Cardinal is totally back together and got a test flight in as well. It climbs better and runs super smooth in cruise. Landed, parked it and didn't see a single drop on the floor and the oil was so clean it was hard to see on the dipstick. I am SO HAPPY! Now we just need an engine monitor in there to protect this investment :anonymous: Today we got door stewards installed on both doors, replaced the baggage door seal, and replaced a bit of the passenger door seal with the leftover material from the baggage door. Also did some misc things like tightening a bolt in the stabilator, fixing camlocks and nut plates on the cowlings, and installing aftermarket seat stops. I added up all the time I spent on this project and it came to 62.2 hours. That's a lot of work!

...^^^... Good informative post ... especially for an aircraft non-mechanic like me.

There is probably more appreciation for what it takes to keep that bird in the air too.

Got my single engine commercial today! :woot:

    fullsizeoutput_859.jpg

Edit: I flew the Cardinal down to Texas today for the summer with the heavy stuff loaded in the back (within limits of course) And I was getting 130kts True airspeed at 6500'. Not too bad for a fixed gear Cessna! The new cylinders definitely seem to perform better in the climb also.

...^^^... Congratulations ... big step in your future, IMO.

The cool thing is you will know the aircraft from several different facets now ... including a generic engine rebuild ... super experience(s) for good problem solving skills later.
