i was having battery problems and a friend tried hooking up their battery in my truck and hooked it up backwards. Blew some fuses and didn't cause any big problems but since then my radio won't turn on. I've checked the basic radio fuses and they were fine. Everything else seems to be working. It's an aftermarket head unit and I was wandering what else I should check or if it maybe fried head unit

Pull the radio out and check the fuse on the back of it and make sure theres power at the radio harness. If the fuse is blown replace it, if the radio is getting power and the fuse isn't blown...Its probably fried! You want to make sure everything is off when jumping a vehicle, to reduce power draw and to help prevent frying the radio.

Did you check the fuse box under the hood as well as the dash panel? Mine was blown when I bought the truck. I drove around for 3 days with no radio before I checked it.

Purpleman, where are the fuses on the back of the radio? Can't get mine on either and I've checked all the fuses in the cab and under the hood.

In my case I have a aftermarket head unit and my fuse was just right on the back of it beside the wiring harness for my radio itself.

Factory radios usually don't have fuses on them. Aftermarket radios usually always have fuses on them.
