500 lbs, 1000 lbs, not even close....I don't know about weights, but my 1984 Toyota had a short bed steel flat bed, with a built on headache rack/roll bar. That gutless pig couldn't even tell a difference between beds. I ran that awhile, sold it and built a tube bed since my new setup had more flex.

Yeah I don't really like the look of it on double cabs either. He bought it like this in 2012 from a dealer with 200,000 something miles on it.

That looks like complete dog ass. Look how the bed design doesn't even take into account the different heights of the front and rear frame mounts. Everything will slide to the rear. Looks like the damn frame is bent lol.

And everyone arguing about steel vs aluminum....it's not worth it. A steel bed for a Toyota should weigh in at about 300 to 310 max. Your not gonna put a ton of river rock on a Toyota, if you do your a moron. The $4000 aluminum beds weigh in at 258 fully assembled. So in reality, an aluminum bed with a hi lift jack and a steel bed weigh the same. Now let's drop 200 lbs of scrap metal on the bed from 1 foot up...we all know what's gonna happen to the aluminum bed. So in the end. If you just want a flatbed because you think it looks good, you don't career about money, and you don't actually use your truck to haul dirty things....by all means ...go aluminum. If you sleep good at night cause you get your hands dirty by working with steel during the day, or you may slide deer feeders on and off, or chains, or a snatch block...aluminum ain't for you my friend. Any ferrous metal will gouge the hell out of the aluminum. If I was made out of money, I would make the whole thing out of stainless and weld it with nickel rods like the military jet fuel trucks are.

This is my dove tail model, it is 6.5 ft long in the middle.

It's a little large cause it was made for a 2nd gen, I just cut the cross members and re welded them to fit the smaller frame.

Fab work isn’t cheap or easy. The more I fab, the more I understand why it costs as much as it does

That's cheap. power coated with lights ready to bolt to your tuck and drive away would be 2200 from me. But thats also with a bent cab hoop and metal diamond plate deck and headboard. There is money to be made in fab work, I have 3 people lined up wanting beds, but not all people can afford it.

I am perfectly fine with this thread resurfacing! Going to be doing something similar with my truck. Anyone incorporate a gas tank relocate in their build?

    That is beautiful work man!
