Well... I vote just get a HC bumper with swingout. I friggin love mine. Such a better departure angle. Plus when you do catch it on something it doesn't crumple. Having the solid tailgate in place still is nice for hauling stuff like mulch.

The only advantage I see with your tiregate idea is that you could probably switch back and forth between regular tailgate and tiregate easily (although I don't really know mounting for tiregate). That'd be nice if you have to carry loads that require tailgate down. I can (and have) removed my swingout to haul stuff, but I mock up a pastic bag with zip ties to keep the greasy spindle clean which is kind of a PITA.

Ordered some refurbished 16" steelies (the 16 hole ones) to put my new KM2s on (255/85/16), and was thinking about painting them. I read a few threads where people use the note card technique but I was thinking I should just do it without the tires off. Only concern is that the guy mounting the tires would probably mess up the paint. Going to be my dedicated trail tires/wheels. Thoughts?

If they're your dedicated trail wheels, why worry? Besides, if they mess them up a little you can just notecard it off and touch it up.

Here in the sunshine state where it rains a lot and the sea breeze contains salt shit will rust right before your eyes a lil rattle can paint can prevent that from happening just saying.

I would do it after they are balanced and mounted, put it on jack stands and take the tires off. Note card strategy works great and that's what I employed when I did this on my xTerra. I also put plastic film over the tires as to not get overspray on them. After it dries remove the not cards and it will look great!

Yes sir, I like that it maintains most of the stock look! And as the other user here mentioned, yes, it's a product of Mobtown Offroad.

Well, my parts/project budget is pretty much zero now as I had to enroll both my kids in daycare/summer camp for the summer until school starts up again for them.

$200/week starting next week until August. That's through the local Boys & Girls Club and is waaaay cheaper than some of the other options.

So maybe I'll finally catch up on some of the projects that I have parts for but have been putting off, like noise deadening my doors/rear, adding LEDs to my bed, ABS kill switch, painting my shifter console black, etc...

Getting the softtopper definitely stung my bank account so I'm probably better off just not doing anything major until the Summer is over.
I really WANT new tires but despite rolling on General Crapper STX 265/70/17s, I don't NEED KBRO2s. I probably have another 8-12 months on them at the rate their wearing now, maybe more.
