Anyone have an educated guess on what my '07 Sport DCSB will fetch at trade in? Do you think I'm better off selling private? Wouldn't mind some real-world advise and incite.

Truck is in good-very good shape. Did a bunch of updates in early '16 including:
    • new frame and leaf springs plus all the recall bits
    • new radiator & water pump
    • all new Billsteins 5100 and eibach springs (1.5" lift)
    • new front wheel bearings
    • TRD exhaust
    • '16 4Runner LTD Wheels
    • BFG KO2 tires (18K miles)
I also had the timing cover leak fixed. The engine is clean. Everything else works, including the compass.

I would sell privately, dealers will always try to screw you so that they can make $$ pretty low km for that year. In BC you would get around 17-19 k for it depending on condition

KBB says 13,400-15,600 for trade. 15,900 for private. Remember, add ons to vehicles do not increase value. You can ask more, but a bank loan won't finance a person for more than the actual value of the vehicle.

Check KBB, Edmunds, NADA etc and do some research and you'll have an idea what to expect. There are lots of factors to consider and don't expect a 'good deal' from a dealer on your trade-in. They either make their money off of you on the trade or the sale of the new vehicle or both.

Dealers will go by NADA and local auction prices, they don't care about any mods or new parts. You're better off putting the truck back completely stock and selling any aftermarket parts yourself.

You always get closer to real world value selling private, just a matter of the market you're in and time and effort you're willing to expend. Also, your truck appears to have attributes a knowledgable buyer would look for. That said, if you do trade in negotiate trade after you negotiate buying price, otherwise they try to hook you on one and screw you on the other. I've seen worse looking trucks than yours (on paper) sell for 15k where I live.

I need advice from anyone who's been through the process of selling privately then purchasing new from a dealer.

I need the cash from the sale of my old truck to put down for the new vehicle.
    Do I...
    1. sell privately, get a deposit from the prospective buyer and ask them to wait until my new vehicle arrives?
    2. go to the dealer first and get a confirmed price then try and sell my truck - hope the dealer honors the quote?
    3. sell the truck, shop around and take cabs (or bike everywhere) until I get a new vehicle?
What have you done in the past and how did it play out?

I have done #2 twice in the past and was fortunate enough to sell my used vehicle quickly. If it was me, I would start the process on both buying and selling. Decide on a price for used and give dealer a chance to meet it (after agreeing on new car price). May take awhile to find the deals you need on both ends so be prepared to find alternative transportation.

    4. Buy an ultra cheap beater car, then sell the Tacoma privately, then buy the new car, then sell the beater and hopefully get out most of what you've got in it. It's a bit of a hassle and you've got to have some cash ready now, but it can work.

I've sold a lot of vehicles private. With my last sale, which was selling my 2011 Tacoma for my current 2013. When I knew I had a serious buyer I put a deposit down on a Tacoma I wanted and then sold the 2011. Once that was done I went back to the dealer and finalized the purchase.

Something to think about is if you plan on trading it in you'll only have to pay taxes on the difference between your trade in and purchase vehicle which in some situations can be a pretty good chunk of change

Are you planning on buying new or used?

I would at least get a offer from a dealer and then make a decision if it's worth trying to get more from private party

EatSleepTacos from MD is looking for a truck, but I think he wants an AC. I buy my cars/trucks outright, then sell my old one privately. It may take a while, but used Toyotas seem to sell pretty fast.

Resale is HIGH here in Cali, but the market is ALWAYS flooded with Tacoma choices (buyers market), especially the double cabs. Some people may not like the short bed (too short in my opinion), but may like the full 4 doors. Your configuration prices here for the year are; 12.5k LO and 19K HI.

Looking to buy new but may go used depending on the financial situation. Got my eye on a new Tundra but $50K is a stretch.
