Anyone want a bunch of 223 brass? A lot is lake city, federal, and Remington. Some is garbage and I don't feel like sorting through it all. I think most of it is once fired, but it's mostly stuff me and my friends collected after a day of shooting. 30 bucks plus shipping. I also have a 223 worlds finest trimmer that I'll let go for $58.37. It'll make trimming the brass that much easier! I no longer own a 223 and my buddies don't shoot that much any more. Paypal is my go to and ill get it out in a day or two.

Looking for advice. I just started reloading. I got some CFE332 powder and looking for a plinking load with 556 cases and Hornady 55fmj bt bullets. Nothing in the hornady manual for that combo or the hogden website.

I made a few with 24 gr of cfe223 with a col2.2 but haven't had a chance to fire yet

I keep seeing conflicting reports on if you can load 556 the same as 223

The 5.56 casing is a little stouter but has the same overall dimensions of a .223 so if you can run it through a .223 the 5.56 casing can handle it.

That said, I would go test the first batch (carefully!) and see what if any casing issues you have.

Below is a "similar" load on the Hodgdon site which I would use as a baseline until you have results from a couple loads. Unless somebody else here has some experience with that powder.

Better to ask what I have not done.
223 is safe to shoot in a 5.56 barrel but you should not shoot a 556 in a 223 barrel due to the higher sami pressures.

But opposite did you know 7.62 is safe to shoot in a 308 barrel but 308 is to high of pressure in a 7.62

Also i "need" to build a sbr in about the 7-8 inch barrel range. Almost want to do it in 458 socom but might lean twards a 300blk. I dont think 223 would be worth that short, or maybe even a pistol caliber like 45acp or 9mm.

    Thoughts.

Believe it or not I did know that. (Still don't know why it's backward with the .308)

I was assuming since he's loading 5.56 he's working with a mil-spec barrel but it's a fair point to make

    In order :
    1) 9mm because super controllable and fun to shoot
    2) 45ACP See above plus knockdown power
    3) 300 BLK because it can handle the shorter barrel
    4) I know you have a "thing" for .458 but OVERKILL on a short barrel plus SBR is built for CQC the SOCOM isn't.

Maybe but i want a Tommy gun then:spy::quickdraw:

    3) 300 BLK because it can handle the shorter barrel

I like this idea but i might as well just convert my current one to this projuct because its a meeehhh caliber without a can and short barrel.

    4) I know you have a "thing" for .458 but OVERKILL on a short barrel plus SBR is built for CQC the SOCOM isn't.

Why isnt it a cqb caliber?!?! :D

This sounds like a perfect CQB caliber i see no reason why the socom cant either

    IMG_4028.jpg

Realistically it will be a 223 or pistol caliber because it might be a prepper gun and it would not be smart to have a 458 looking for ammo:anonymous:

That's another great point. You can find all 3 (9mm .45 and .223) at walmart...Which is my caliber barometer

Just arguing practicality in a TEOTWAKI situation. If you're going for freedom boner then go mini .458 and see what happens. I'm interested now

Or just build it and then put a can and lob 540grain freedom dispencers at 1100 fps.
