I thought you were supposed to ground the solid violet wire that is still connected to the inverter?

    Rick

    From post #1

"Solid violet wire. (cut and cap off the side that is not connected to the inverter) then the other end, extend and connect it to a ground."

If all fuses are good try backing out the changes you made for the anytime 400W mod. And from the previous post it sounds like you may have grounded the wrong wire. If I remember correctly I thought I read there is a difference for this mod if you have an AT or manual.

    And welcome to TW.

    Thank You Adriancast!

I just completed this mod (as well as adding a CB radio, and some constant power USB ports inside the console ) to my Tacoma. I took a few days to do the whole thing, but everything is back together and everything works as planned. You're writeup was awesome help!

Home Depot outlet with USB ports works as 400watt anytime!

I'm guessing it's not possible to do this if you don't already have the stock outlet in the bed and its inverter?

you can always install your own inverter. You might want to pull your console off and see if any of the wiring is already there. I wouldn't be surprised if all the plugs for the Toyota inverter were already in place.

    Hey all,

I wanted to pick your brains on this. I did this mod a few weeks ago with zero issues, everything working well/correctly. One of my intentions with this mod was to run a small 200W max heater in bed of the truck while driving.

I had done this a hand full of times with no issues since doing the mod, however on my way to a ride a couple weeks ago I threw a P1500 code that caused my check engine light to come on. However it did not affect the operation of the inverter or the heater.

P1500 code failure description and operation:
When the engine is idling, the ECM performs idle-up according to the power supply of the inverter in order to stabilize the engine idling speed. When the vehicle is stationary and the inverter output exceeds 8.3 amps, the inverter sends an ide-up signal from the OUT terminal of the inverter to the ELS2 terminal of the ECM.
If the idle -up signal is input to the ECM for 10 seconds while the vehicle is running, the ECM interprets this as a malfunction in the inverter circuit and sets the DTC

I can understand why this code had been thrown, I am mainly curious if any one else had this happen while powering devices when driving?

    Much appreciated!

Soooooo you make it have a switch, Im kinda confused how that was wired up?

The T taps went to the oem wire harness, then to the outlet you bought. But I'm lost how you wired the switch swell

Worth noting... the cool USB outlets on Amazon that have covers and light up are for DC power and won't work. And now I head to HD for something that will. Almost done!

Finished up this morning. 400W anytime and USB/AC outlet combo. Now I can keep my phone charged up front and the kids can keep there's charges in the back. Hoping that translates into happier road trips.

    Thanks OP!

    Great write-up.

With the AC Outlet Mod option:

    IMG_0635.jpg

Can you tell me which spot you use for which wire? Red Wire being the Hot, would that connect to the Right Side spoke looking from the Back, Green Wire being the Neutral, would that connect to the Left Side spoke, and then you run a Ground Wire from the Outlet on the Bottom to a spot by the Inverter? Do you know if for the 3rd Gens these two colors (Red/Green) are the same for this Mod. Lastly, if I wanted to hook up two outlets do I tap into the main wires like you show but then use a connector with some heat shrink to connect two wires coming out of each spot?

Does anyone have left-over single 120v black square receptacles from their projects? Trying to buy 2-3 you spend way more in shipping than what they cost... and I see Amazon has 10 packs but no singles available. Maybe someone bought a 10 pack and would sell a few of the spares at a reasonable cost? Thanks....

Mostly interior mods. Hood work leds, in-cab outlet (I have it switched to the front plug for a cabin heater in the winter), 400w all the time on the inverter, heated mirror add-on, and 4x4 switch illumination. Up coming I want a level kit and hood scoop light bar and possibly line the bed with the led strips.
Finally getting around to posting a few pictures of this mod. I also added a switch because the outlet is also connected to the front plug for a cabin heater for when I'm using electricity at work ;)

Also put quick disconnects if I need to completely pull the center out again.

The left as you look at the plug (the longer slot) is neutral the shorter slot is hot. Any questions about the inverter wiring can probably be found online. Google knows just about everything.

No Lowes or Home Depot down by you? I ask because if we had any we would have to ship as well.

Just ordered this convenient little package, happy it doesn’t look like it belongs in a house wall, and should fit either the rear of the console, and possibly the cubby in front of the console cup holders. I’ll have to decide once it gets here.
Desktop Power Grommet 2-Socket and 2-USB Convex Surface (Black)

I was extremely tempted to buy this and wallow out the automatic trans console cup holder to fit it. But I love that cup holder, so I spared it...
Desktop Power Grommet Data Center with 2 Usb Ports Hidden Design (Black)

I’ll post an installed pic when I get time to put it in.
Damn you TacomaWorld for your mods!!!!
