Bike looks great! My friend picked up a YZ125 for the woods last year and I finally got on it a few months ago. I didn't want to give it back.

Picked up a 2017 yz250f last week from the warehouse in cypress... Just in time to get comfy on it for Mammoth MX in the end of June and then Loretta Lynns in a couple months!

I have to ask because Im new to bikes (other than old 50s and stuff when i was a kid) and decided to go buy a 1998 rm250 as a starter bike. Super clean and it good shape. Drove it today for the first time and WELL.....I now know how people murder themselves on these. This is a crazy amount of bike for a beginner. Do you suggest a 125 instead? I was just worried I would get tired of a 125 fast and didnt want to wish I had more power. Now Im thinking I should get one instead.
    Thought?

Look for a 4-stroke bike instead of the 2-stroke you bought. The 4-stroke has a more forgiving power band and is not as snappy to ride.

If you are a beginner like you said you are and the 250 2-stroke is just too snappy and too much for you, then I would go with a 250 4-stroke. Plenty of power but more gentle and more rideable for a beginner level rider.

Mammoth 2017 was an adventure as always!

Practice day went pretty smooth with efi tuning help from Thousand Oaks Powersports, got the bike to run great and get rid of all the lean pop at altitude!

    IMG_5256.jpg

Race day was a little more troublesome with a hard crash in a 6 man pileup off the start at about 4th gear tapped (50mph). Exploded a rear wheel, bent a pair of bars, and skewed the controls...

Sadly missed the 250F LCQ and didn't race the main event, but I qualified directly to the main in College Boy (A/B/C). Started in the back due to the bike puking coolant on the gate, but worked my way up to 24th /40 main event riders.
    IMG_3528.jpg IMG_3525.jpg IMG_3527.jpg IMG_3526.jpg

Didn't get the results I had wanted (top 20 in both classes) but still had a fun week overall racing, fishing, and hiking with friends!

    Badass man.
I'm an old timer (58 yr old), going to Spangler hills next weekend on my 07. I never raced motocross, but I did some desert racing which included GPs on moto tracks. Fun stuff.
I'm a trail rider at heart though. I dig the adventure of getting through challenging terrain and seeing the sites.

Awesome bike and photos man. Just hung up my boots in November and miss it bad already. Have an awesome track just 6 minutes from my house! The rate I was breaking bones was unsustainable. Stay safe!!!!
