PPL don't have to go to the stealer for draining diesel from gas tank, they can contact a reputible private shop who will do it for a LOT less.
In fact the less the stealer knows, the better off you might be.

He did later say that he was the passenger not the driver. I will withhold all of my opinions about this story except this one fact. Diesel pumps do not fit in gas tanks. I have tried specifically with my Tacoma out of curiosity.

Could be, but hypothetically speaking, it could happen, well actually it does happen daily to someone.
And this will be a good practice run on what to do. I mean after all, we are in the 3rd Gen forum
where anything that can theoretically happen to someone usually does?

I do not recommend this but.... I have a fleet of small trucks/vans. over the years we've had employees put diesel in the gas tank. We just siphon out the best we can, fill it with gas and go on our way. We've never had a problem. But this is my experience. Yours might be different. I know if I put regular gas instead of premium in my BMW, it will throw a code and put the engine in to "limp home mode". All I had to do was let the car sit 1 minute, start it, code clears, drive VERY easy until I can fill it with premium. With these new trucks they may have some sort of sensor when the gas isn't "normal.

I believe that Diesel pumps in most places use the slightly larger pump that leaded fuel use to use. Back when there were still stations that sold leaded and unleaded gas the leaded nozzle would not fit into a car that used unleaded gas.

The TDI Jettas were actually designed so that many diesel nozzles at gas stations will not fit into their hole (A4 opening). That is why this exists https://www.amazon.com/TDI-Diesel-Fuel-Nozzle-Adapter/dp/B00696Y74O

Had a cousin that was killed by a drunk driver. My mother in laws twin sister was killed by a drunk driver. One of my best friends growing up was cut in half by a light pole in the passenger seat because of the drunk driver in the driver seat. I drove up on the accident 2 to 3 minutes after it happened before the cops got there and pulled him out. It didn't matter though he was already gone. The driver another friend only had cuts and abrasions. Hell of a start to a senior year. Did I and do I drink? yes But I never drink and drive or drink and shoot.

If the guy was drunk maybe he just thought he put diesel in the tank. I don't get the whole nozzle thing. It is larger than a gas nozzle. But I've seen many RVer's (motorhomes) accidentally put gas into their diesel tank. And I've seen them siphon it out and just fill back up with diesel, no issues. But again, do not try this!
