My 2015 Subaru came with stock halogen projectors, and I upgrade to HIDs. I got the Xenon Depot xtreme kit with the 4300k phillips bulbs, and couldn't be happier. Even though they're halogen projectors, they handle the HIDs extremely well. There's still a crisp cut off line and no glare to oncoming drivers. The higher you go on the Kelvin temperature chart, the less useable light you acutally get. The 4300k is the color that comes on vehicles with stock HIDs and puts out the most useable light. If you want something a little whiter, up to 6k would be good.

    Welcome!

Best and whiter don't usually go hand in hand as whiter halogen = bulb coating = reduced output. So depends on what you mean by best. Note that going above 4000k color temp in halogen means a really heavy coating which will reduce output, for 'white' halogens I would look at staying 4000k or lower. If you want higher HID would be a better route.

For stock wattage, check out Osram Nightbreaker, they are partially coated but still leave some of the bulb uncoated. This isn't the whitest available but gives a whiter look without degrading the performance like a fully coated bulb. This is about the best performing stock wattage bulb.

If you are looking for full coating you can check out the Optilux (Hella) Extreme Xenon Blue, these come in 55w version and a significantly brighter 80w version.

For the 80w version you will likely want to run a harness. If you don't care about color and just want the best possible bulb, I would suggest the 90w Flossers, but at that point you might as well run HID on your 3rd gen.

I'll look into those thanks. Not really wanting to swap to HID because I know the need to change out the halogen projectors. I'll be sure to look into those thanks

x2 this question.. I'm all about functional upgrades. LED and HID are out of the picture because to do it the right way they cost a lot money ( projectors etc.)

Since 3rd gen tacos come with halogen projectors what is the best quality halogen bulb that puts out the most output? White light is preferred but not necessary.. thanks TW

This is the halogen upgrade with the most output, while it is titled foglight it is the same as the 3rd gen headlight.

There is a section in the end of the thread that covers whiter, though lower performing, bulbs.
