Gents, I'm in the market for tire - the S/T Maxx has captured my interest for a very long time. Pat Callinan's review was the catalyst. I've been waiting for my BFG KOs (265/75r16, e-rated), that the PO installed, to wear out and now it's time. I'm torn between the S/T Maxx and the KO2...

The main reason the KO2 is still a contender for me is due to the fact that:
    a) I put over 70k miles on my current KOs with no issues - two cross country trips, Moab, numerous weekend trips to Gila NF etc...
    b) I get 17 mpg average (pretty damn good for an armored Taco with a camper shell, RTT, and drawer system)

If I could get similar numbers from a set of S/T Maxx, I'm sold. I really think the Maxx is a better tire for the weekend warrior types, but I don't want to take a big hit when it comes to tire lifespan or mileage. This truck is a dual-sport, DD vehicle for me.

To the long-term S/T Maxx owners out there - what type of lifespan have you seen from your Maxxs and did you notice any drop in MPGs going with this tire? If you have already been through a set of Maxxs - I would love to hear your results. If you changed over from another e-rated tire in the same size, I would be very interested in your feedback as well.

    Cheers,

Love my STMaxx for street and light offroad. I'm stepping up my game and getting the KM2(255/85r16). My STMaxx have like 40,000 miles and I'm selling them to my buddy for $225. Mileage is slightly worse because I went from the Cooper ATR, AT3, ATP, which were all passenger rated, while the STMaxx is e-rated (265/75r16).

    Awesome! Thanks for chiming in.

At 40k miles - what's the tread depth? Can you attach a photo? How are they wearing?

Also, I know there are a thousand variables here between your truck and mine, but what MPGs do you get on a daily basis? Miles per tank would work too (or miles when the low fuel light illuminates).

I'm interested to hear back on this too. It's looking like I'll pull 50k+ out of my Duratracs, but the ST Maxx looks like it has a good tread pattern and many more sizes than the Duratracs. If they don't last long enough though I'll probably end up sticking with my 31" Duratracs.

8-11/32 but that's with lots off offroad time. They wear great as long as you keep them rotated. I'm averaging 16mpg

I started with 265/75/16 ST Maxx on my truck, drove about 20k miles with lots of off road time, sold them to a friend and he is still running them on his 1st Gen Tundra. I bought some used (guy stated 10k miles on them, not so sure that was correct, I'm thinking they had 15-20k) in 285/75/16 4 were used, 1 was new and I worked them into a 5 tire rotation. I just took them off my truck after a little over 20k miles and they are at about 7-8/32nds, with the one that started new at 11-12/32nds. I was not impressed with the tread wear on the 285's, however I wasn't easy on them and my truck is 6300 lbs loaded with gear. I do love the tire overall. Tough as nails, perform well in most conditions, and drive pretty smooth on the street. They are a heavy tire, but that is to be expected. I still got between 16-17 mpg on the highway even with my supercharged fat girl on my last trip with the Maxx's.

Final impressions: I would buy again.

    Thank you!

Last time I checked Cooper's site, the 265/75r16 S/T Maxx was listed at 54 lbs. Is that accurate? Interestingly, the BFG KO2 in the same size is 54 lbs as well.

I never weighed them, but I do know the 285's are about 68 lbs.

55,000 on mine, mostly road use though they did get a good amount of time off road. They wore pretty good except for some cupping I got on the fronts from bad suspension. They did get alot louder over time as they wore, they were pretty "quiet" initially. Think I might try out the ST PRO this time around, we'll see.

Had 275/70/17 (32's) AT3's for a couple years; great tire but I needed something a bit more aggressive off-road, and looking for a taller/skinnier profile.

Switched to the S/T Maxx about a year ago. 255/80/17 (33's). Awesome traction: plenty of siping for rain, great traction in snow, strong sidewall and fairly quiet on the highway while being much better on the trails. Back around new years I spent a week in North Idaho wandering the wilderness. Tires were at 10 PSI the whole time; no problems and great traction. Have about 10k miles on them and the tread has barely worn down at all. Being E's they're a bit heavier that the AT3 C's, but I haven't noticed much of an impact on MPG. Hard to ask for much more than that.

Thanks for all of your feedback. I decided to go with BFG KO2s. I balanced them with Dynabeads. I'll be initiating a long term review in a week or so.

Interested as well. About to pull the trigger on these in 255/85/16. Other choices in that size are not ideal for my driving. Bump for anymore info.

I just switched from ST Maxx to KO2's after 15k miles.

The Coopers were getting to be a bit of a pain in the ass for daily driving. Even after a roadforce they had a slight wobble at highways speeds, and a couple of the tires even had triple-stacked weights on them. Not to mention they were heavy as hell for a 33". Cooper warrantied them for 50% and I switched to KO2.

Now, I have to say, the Coops had never let me down offroad, and I've taken them into some pretty burly stuff. Deep snow. Deep mud. Trails. I will always love them for that. But after a year I was looking for something a little less aggressive.

As a bonus I no longer pull to the right either haha.

Having the same issues with balancing my ST Maxx. How did you get Cooper to Warranty the tires? I just bought my second set of ST Maxx in a 285/75/16 because I loved the first set I had and it was time for new ones. I'm really disappointed in this new set because they ride like crap, I've had them balanced 6 times and they've been road forced 3 times and have triple stacked weights on a few as well. Not normal. I even bought new wheels along with the tires. Can't catch a break, and unfortunately I think I'm gonna have to get rid of them. I'll miss them because when they ride smooth on the highway they're awesome.

I've had 265/70 17's for about 5000 miles. Getting about 19mpg on the freeway and 16mph bee bopping around town.

    Love them!

Almost 62,000 miles today. 8.5-11/32 tread. Hoping to see more numbers from fellow ST Maxx owners.
