Yeah! The much hated OR/Sport grill has a plastic shelf behind the grill you can go decal crazy on! It looks cool close up but not overly obnoxious.

This trip was between 11 and 14 depending in terrain. Pretty much my average with this trailer.

Your mileage is really comforting to hear Lord Humongous! Just bought 17 DCORSB, and have same Jayco trailer as yours! I'm heading out in June to your neck of the woods from Upstate New York. Tranny info is very helpful and much appreciated. Thanks

A little update here. We just took the trailer for its first big trip with the new cooler installed. We went up to Flagstaff for the overland expo which is pretty much uphill all the way from Phoenix. We had full water tanks and brought everything including the kitchen sink. I pinned the trans thermostat open and my pan temp never broke 180f and that was with my foot in the pedal passing a line of semi trucks uphill. The converter temp did jump to 210f but immediately dropped back down after leveling out. Most of the trip trans temps were 160-170f.
It defiantly feels like the trans also holds overdrive (5th gear) better while towing with the cooler fluid. Mileage was 11.5

Looks like pinning thermostat open is the new tow/haul option. Thanks for the update. 2500 miles on my swamp pumpkin and loving it so far! Hooking up to the jayco this weekend for a short trip and excited

Full disclosure I don't even own a third Gen, but I was wondering how involved it would be to install an actuator on the trans thermostat. It would be handy as a pocket in a shirt to flip a switch and open the thermostat

Just to be clear, this trip was with the added cooler and not using the extra fan?

I have thought the very same thing....some type of door actuator might work if we could mount it up to the thermostat.

I was running the bigger cooler and and T-stat pinned open. The fan was off 90% of the time but I did turn on a couple of times during the inevitable tragic slow downs as it's 2 lanes all the way to Flagstaff.

That's an awesome idea! A 1 inch linear actuator would do the trick. We just need to brainstorm some mounting solutions.

Yup! That's the hardest part IMO.

I saw those....not much to mount with. Now that school is out for the summer I'll have time to brainstorm.

This is what I was imagining, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to mount it

This thread got me going to install a larger cooler on my Taco. Had the same setup in my S10 with the 4L60e trans and it went 216k with no issues and still going strong with new owner. Thanks lord humongous!

Went with something smaller with a magnetic filter and No fan, since I won't likely ever tow anything that large.

    Yup, inline magnetic filter.
Used to use it on reman trans from factory warrantied trannies at dealer I worked for when we replaced them. They also came on aftermarket rebuilt trans from independent vendors for out of warranty trans. This was back in the late 90's. Figured it wouldn't hurt to follow suit. I never asked why they said it was a must, but it maintained the factory warranty.
This was at Honda. Maybe gearcruncher can shed light on it. Probably helps with keeping steel wear components from contaminating fluid compromising clutch performance. Wouldn't hurt to have magnet on oil drain plug like GM uses either, but just keep up on oil changes right?
Will have to install in the next week or so. I'll update then in this thread, if that's ok with you.

Yeah that's definately OK with me! Look forward to seeing your setup. Does that filter hang free or does it mount to something?
    Thanks!

Adding all these ideas to the list for when we pay off the wife's 4runner and I get a new pickup!
