Went to start the Taco yesterday morning. When I touched the pushbutton starter there was a single pop sound from under the hood and the truck lost all electrical power. No dash lights of any kind and obviously the starter didn't spin. Opened the hood and before I could even begin to look at or touch anything I heard a rapid clicking sound coming from the driver's side firewall that lasted for about 5 seconds. Looked back at the dash and the ignition was on. Hit the starter button and the truck started right up. Have not been able to replicate, and this has never happened before (6300 miles). Any ideas?

good luck if it starts to happen again.
unless you catch it on video, even then if it doesn't happen at a dealer odds of them ever diagnosing it will be next to 0 as it will always be 'can't replicate symptom'

I'd start by checking around the fuses/relays/contacts that are constant power.
A lot of stuff is obviously based off aux/ignition power.

Things like starter, often door locks etc are constant 12V. I'd say start there, looking for loose connections and faulty relays.
If it was a complete loss I'd consider checking where the positive lead taps into the fuse panel and starter.

I'd have the dealer check it for codes--could be a water leak. I have had my AC drain clog multiple times in AC season--back up into the dash--causes all sorts of electrical problems and mold. Dealer says it's common on all makes and models--spider webs to leaves...they blow / vac out. Mine spit out a series of codes that the dealer knew was a water leak--no actual damage--once it dried out.

Almost sounds like an automatic resetting circuit breaker, but no idea if our trucks contain any.

Process of elimination, Check battery connection first. Even a tiny bit of buildup on the post can cause a disconnect. If they are not almost spotless clean, pull them, clean them, reconnect them. That's where I'd start.

Two things come to mind, one we know for sure, the battery had juice. Two, all electrical components went to work once they got the juice.
Leads me to think you have a loose wire or ground wire somewhere. Check both battery terminals at battery and make sure its tight, that's easy nuff.
Checking the battery positive to the starter junction or the chassis negative ground strap(s) maybe best to leave for the stealer to check. It's kind of dark, scary for most owners and besides it's under warranty.
And hate to say it but, it may happen again at the most inopportune time so get on the stealer to check those wires.

Let us know what they find

    Cheers!
