So today I had an appointment to get an ARB Diff Breather installed at the dealership. I was told it would take an hour over the phone and then after about half an hour of waiting they told me it would be 4-5 hours of labor...... not going to happen. Anyone have advice on how long this should really take? As someone with absolutely 0 mechanical skills I don't want to mess anything up but the process seems pretty straight forward from what I've read on here. Was the dealer just trying to rip me off? Should I try to do it myself? Find a different local mechanic?

Rear Diff. My understanding, which might be completely wrong, is that the front diff breather is already up in the engine bay somewhere higher than the rear.... as I mentioned I know very little about this so let me know if I am wrong about that. Also does the transmission breather need to be extended?

I only did my rear since it is low (right on top of rear diff), front is high enough on the firewall, so I didn't bother. It took me about 10-15 minutes to do the rear using this link: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/differential-breather-mod-for-dummies-pics.15686/

The front would take maybe 15-20 minutes due to the tight area it is located. They were definitely trying to KungFu hustle you.

Honestly, this is really easy, Charlie. A stoned monkey can do this mod. I know you guys in CO like to blaze, but you can't get THAT high... You can do this yourself, no worries.

Had a local guy in New Jersey make it and apply it. It is hard to do that kind of work. It takes some serious skill.

Aren't you worried to leave your truck with all those rotopax and tools somewhere? When you're grocery shopping or some place inside while your truck is outside by the curb or at a parking structure? Perhaps in Germany people don't steal and are well behaved. No way I could take that chance here in Southern California.
