My 99 Tacoma with almost 208k miles that Ive owned for about 17 years now has been awesome. I really don't drive it much but want to hold onto it for a long time more.
Well, it sat for several months without being driven (dead battery, never got around to replacing it...I know, I know...)
Anyway, since I replaced the battery Ive been driving it more and more. Ive noticed that in 1st and 2nd gear, typically below 2000 rpm, it kinda sputters. Almost like its not getting enough fuel. After 2000rpm, it seems to run fine.

Is this likely due to gummed up injectors? If so, would you recommend SeaFoam or a related product? I have a friend that suggested SeaFoam and said it worked wonders in him motorcycle.

THought I'd as for input here. Thanks.

Also, its needs new shock pretty bad. Any idea what that'll cost me? Cheap shocks are fine!

Run some Sea Foam through it in the gas. Amsoil as well as Chevron also make some very good fuel system cleaners. If that doesn't clear up the problem then you might want to do a serious cleaning as far as the throttle body is concerned. You can dump Sea Foam (AT A VERY SLOW RATE) into the engine through the brake booster vacuum line and then "drive the shit out of it until the smoking stops" to clean out the throttle body. Sea Foam has directions on the can. It'll smoke like crazy while you're revving it to get the engine to drink the Sea Foam without stalling and it'll smoke like crazy for the first few miles you drive after that but then it will clear out. Even after it quits smoking drive the shit out of it for 5 or 10 miles.

If that doesn't work you'll have to pull off the throttle body and do it manually with brushes and carb cleaner. In your case I'd bet just driving it regularly every day and using good fuel such as Chevron or another top tier fuel will solve the problem over time. From what you have said it's just "stuck up" from sitting so long. The worst thing you can do to any vehicle is park it for months and months.

I'd just use high quality gas and drive it with some serious revving for a month or so and see if it runs better. If that doesn't fix the problem then refer to my other suggestions. As far as a cheap shock goes? Just head to NAPA, Autozone, O'Reileys and they'll sell you one.
