OEM Pocket Box Power Outlet

Where can I find a 2015 OEM pocket box power outlet other than the dealership? I've looked on eBay and there is one listed but it is for 2013 and below. Thanks for the help!!!!!

 

A 2013 power outlet cubby will fit your 2015 - I got one off craigslist to DIY a power panel back there. All the rear storage boxes are the same 2005-2015.

eBay, craigslist, TW or junkyard are good bets. But if you don't have it from the factory on the truck, you're going to have to get an inverter as well and wire it up to use it.

 

How much should I be looking to spend on something like that? Also, where can I get a inverter? Did you find it worth doing once you got yours installed?

 

There's no real reason to try and get the factory 400W Toyota inverter; there are plenty of aftermarket inverters available. I got a 600W

Try and consider what it is you need to do with the A/C outlet in the bed to help inform what inverter you get. For me, I just needed to charge batteries and laptops that didn't have 12v chargers available. So getting a pure sine-wave inverter was important to me, as some electronics don't like the modified sine-wave inverters available much more cheaply. But I also didn't need anything more powerful than 600W.

Anyone know of something closer to the 1200 watt mark that is still reasonably sized? I'd like to run a small electric skillet off the plug in the bed for camping purposes.

 

Just my $0.02 worth, however I recommend reading up on what's involved in wiring up a 1200 W inverter before commiting to buying one to run an electric skillet. To mount it in the cab you'll need 12 ft or more of at least #2 AWG wire; a 150 or 200 A fuse and holder, or circuit breaker; a capable switch or relay to shut off the inverter; and wire to run from the inverter to the bed outlet (12 or 14 AWG marine duplex cable).

All this will of course have to be fished/run from the battery to the converter, and converter to bed outlet--and perhaps a second battery and isolation switch.

This could start to make a small generator or propane stove and skillet look like viable alternatives. Our A-Liner camper has its own battery and a 1250 W inverter--we quickly found out there were alternatives to electric skillets...

This is quite true, and even though the battery will be carrying most of the load the generator will try its best to do something, which stresses it more than is normal--however for occasional/intermittent use this is not a huge concern...

 

All good points. The running of the cable is a piece of cake as I've done similar stuff for stereo amplifiers. Additionally, most inverters of that size have their own integrated hardline switch on the inverter itself. And I'm aware the alt won't make 130 at idle. I've been searching and I can't seem to find what it makes at idle since I know that's a concern. I suppose I could measure it but that would be tricky to get a solid read.

All of that being said, if Honda or Yamaha didn't fucking gouge so hard for those little generators I'd own one already lol! Those seem to be the ONLY two kinds worth getting. Anything else is just a loud piece of shit for the most part.

 

Bought my truck used but think it might have a factory tow package. Is there an easy way to tell which alternator is installed?
