That is a short way to say, I am wondering what front bumper that offers real protection (say for road hazards like deer, dogs, protesters, zombies) that closely equals the dimensions of a factory Gen 2 bumper?

I know there are a lot of styles out there. Many are extended for various reasons (winch, looks, additional protection) But what bumpers are more compact and closely mimic factory profiles?

    Thanks,

You're right. Not much protection there.

I had more idea of full bumper replacement but with less front protrusion. I'm still searching.

Pelfreybilt's bumper stays pretty close to the grill if you don't have hoops on it. I put one of their on with the single hoop for the same reasons you are, and have been very happy with it. Not to many zombies around here though...

Yeah my pelfrey is rather tight and clean

You may have to go custom to get what you want.

One reason I want something close to factory size and profile is I'm not planning to lift my truck or go larger tires.

I LOVE the look of a built truck (lift, tires, armor, etc.) but I think I'm going to keep this one as factory as I can with the exception of some discreet protection front and rear.

And "to me" a large bumper on a stock high truck looks , I don't know, off balance. Where that same bumper looks awesome on a truck with a lift and tires.

Do you guys get what I'm trying to say?

If you're not going to do suspension upgrades, then I'd look for an aluminum bumper. I believe the Pelfreybilt bumper is only about 60 lbs in aluminum (check their website...) but you take about 20lbs off the front of the truck removing the stock "stuff".

Nothing low profile for Tacoma according to their site. They have a heavy duty one I may check out.

    Nope, to ugly.

Lol iron cross is about as far from OEM as you can get. Mines well strap a couple railroad ties to the front.

Southern style off-road and then USoffroad as posted above and DTF fab will be the most low profile you can get.

Undercover hidden winch mount and Pelfrybilt have even more hidden methods that aren't technically bumpers, just winch mounts.

For what you say you need have you looked at an Avid Offroad bumper bar. It offers protection and not much weight. Retains stock bumper. There is a thread on here of people slaughtering deer with it

That's a good idea. It can't take a hit like a full plate bumper, but it'll still offer some good protection.

OP, what you're looking for just doesn't exist. All these bumpers are designed to maximize approach angle and to keep the area in front of the tires open so as not to rub off road.
