Also in Baton Rouge. I bought my limited 4X4 brand new as well from Supreme Toyota in Hammond. They gave me a pretty decent deal on my truck at the time, I want to say, like 500 - 1000 over invoice (this was in OCT 2015 when they were just released). However, they completely screwed me over on my trade in. I had a rebuilt title '01 camry that was in fantastic overall shape vs age. they sales manager originally said they would give me 1500 for it, but when the papers came to sign the truck, that could magically couldn't be found and they only gave me 500. I actually regret not keeping the camry and taking the truck, but it is what it is. a rebuilt title is a rebuilt title....Then the little dipshit told me outright that he was going to buy my car (and he did, actually. uses it as his daily driver). I actually even tried buying it back from him when my GF totalled her car. of course he said no...dick.

Anyways, I told you that story to basically tell you that, they may offer a good price if you go with them, but be wary. they will screw you some other way. Also the people at Price LeBlanc were very conceited and wouldn't negotiate at all. Overall I would stay clear from both Supreme and Price LeBlanc. Team Toyota does really good service on my truck, but I did not deal with them with negotiations.

As far as how the truck is doing...Its fantastic. I have the TSB V1 done and am enjoying everything about the truck, I had Team check my ATF and it was good, and when i heard about the diff leak, I looked, and mine is not leaking. All in All the truck has been great. Good Luck!

Lol I'd be upset too. Hindsight is 20/20, but it would be been best to keep the car. Around here (DFW TX) you can't hardly find any beater for under 1k even without a working a/c.

Yup, we weren't trading in, but had a similar experience with Supreme. Originally, we contacted them through the Costco sales program. The deal wasn't that good (but each dealer works their own deal through Costco, so it's not really an issue with Costco). They kept trying to get us to come over to the store to talk about dealing. We told them we weren't interested in traveling over there until we had an actual truck and price. The sales lady kept calling and kept rudely saying "Come in, let's just get it done." Incidentally, this was the dealership that called back later asking if I was still interested in buying a truck. I told them I bought one. He asked how much, I told him (as I wanted them to realize I was serious about buying and they should have just offered a fair deal) and he called me a liar.

    That dealership sucks.

I think your strongest play is to sell both vehicles privately. Toyota offered me $7K on my trade for my '05 Z-71 with 180K miles. I listed it locally for $11K and sold it for $10.5 within a week.

Private sale will almost always be in your favor. The only significant factor you may have to crunch some numbers on is the sales tax difference on trade (if your state tax laws work that way).

Worth mentioning is that you can usually get the dealer to write up the private sale and purchase at the same time if you can coordinate all parties (sometimes with a small charge $1-200).

Basically, they write up the sale on your old vehicle at the dealership, and the new owner drives away. Then, you write up your new vehicle and you're only charged tax on the difference between the sale price of your old vehicle and purchase price of your new one.

If you itemize taxes do not forget to factor that in. Lets pretend for a sec you are in the 25% bracket. You would only see 75% of the sales tax reduction on a trade. The sales tax deduction would come off the top of your income so you would have to look at the tax rate for the highest bracket. You want to blow away a sales person throw the income deduction thing at them. A lot of them are in sales because they are not very good with numbers.

Welp Price Leblanc has just put a bad taste in my mouth.

Went to check the truck out last thursday, couldnt due to recall, couldnt look at it, sell it, indefinite hold. They will call me when i can come check it out, also mentioned a different similar taco being traded in, Ok. called me friday and tried offering me a newer certified taco for 38.5.... went through the cost list and asked why i would pay more than what i should be paying for a new one and got the response "youre right". called monday for an update on the new one being traded in, got a call back hours later around 7 (two rings and hung up), when i got off the phone i called back and left a voicemail. no returned calls so i called today i called back and somehow someone was allowed to put a down payment on it. WTF

I agree. We had a reliable but older daily driver that the dealership offered $1700 for. I sold it private party for $3,000. Seems like the only time trade-in works in your favor is if something is wrong with the vehicle or it would be hard to sell privately.

offered me a new limited with tonneau, exhaust tip, premium mat, stainless tube, mub guards, ball mount and tow package for 38.5..

not sure if i even want to deal with them anymore though or get a brand new truck

You really need the Carfax on this used Taco. In the state I live in all used cars are required to have the Carfax as part of the listing.

It sounds like the dealership is using the truck you are interested in as an "ad car" designed to lure you into the dealership and then they will steer you to other offerings. Hold your ground. You know you are onto something special when they act like they can't find the keys, the car or both. Go into the dealership with the VIN written down as well...do not rely on that ad staying up for any length of time.

Dealers will try to give you $500-$1500 on a trade, especially something 12-16 years old. Around where I live, crappy beater cars are at the $3,000 pricepoint. Only trade something in that you would not feel right selling to a private buyer. By the way it is a pain in the ass nowadays to sell a car on your own. I wouldn't want anyone buying a car from me and knowing where I live. You never know what trouble that will invite.

If you do trade in a vehicle and they only offer you $1,000 then counter that by having them cover the tag, title and tax. That turns a $1,000 trade deal into a $1,500 to $2,000 deal. Cars that old will be sent either directly to a "buy here/pay here" car lot or it will go to auction.

Make sure that you also understand whether it's a "certified used car" or not.

The price you noted is really exceptional for a fully loaded Limited Taco. Make sure it has all the stuff it's supposed to have.

Most dealers now have a contact or 2 at the local note lots. They'll shop your trade to several of the "your job is your credit" type places to see what they're worth. Usually, those guys will pay more than auction and the dealer gets their money quicker. They'll also leverage these relationships when they have deals that are stuck due to a customer that is unwilling to accept a low ball amount on their trade.
My advice is always to negotiate a cash deal with no trade. When you feel confident that the drive off price is as low as you can get (should be lower than Truecar.com), then spring the trade on them and see what they offer. Dealers will try to play 3 card monte with you all day if you let them. To me, it's tiring. Give me your best and final drive off price on a new Tacoma. Then, tell me what you're willing to pay me for my trade.

Why does Toyota offer ball mounts on so many trucks?. It is a deal killer for me. I already have 3. Ball mounts should be a dealer add on that can be easily removed.
