Who is running a flatlink shackle AND a front license plate? I have everything dry fit, minus the winch, and my flat link shackle still offsets my hawse fairlead license plate mount too far to mount the license plate. I splurged and got the factor 55 ultrahook and it's just too thick with the fairlead to screw on the license plate part. My whole goal, on top of the fact they are frick'n sweet, was to avoid the dangling line out of my fairlead leading to the shackle mounts for the factory hook. Show me your fairlead/flatlink shackle/license plate set-up. I looked and haven't seen one so I'm really wondering if I will get a hit in this. Thanks.

Edit: found post #446 second time around. @jomopdx how well does your bracket work over the flatlink?

Install can be done by yourself but I don't recommend it. Love the bumper!

I had someone ask me on my profile page what I thought about my new SSO bumper on my suspension and I can't do it in 140 characters/words, whatever it is, so I will do it here.

I installed my SSO bumper two weeks ago and did not expect to have any changes in my handling characteristics but I did. Now don't let that first sentence give you the wrong idea, it's truly not that bad but there is a difference. I have done absolutely nothing to my stock suspension, tires or wheels. I did not weight the bumper/winch combo (smittybilt x2o 10k synthetic line winch) but I would assume 150 lbs or so. The steering is not quite as sharp and has slight feelings of understeer (I would have assumed oversteer). I have no concerns of loosing control but I can tell the difference. I have no vibrations in the steering wheel in a straight line or turning. But in a straight line I find myself paying a little more attention to where I am in the road, I seem to drift, not pull, but drift slightly. Again, not a dangerous drift but a difference. I can say my wet road performance is better with the weight after some major downpours on my home yesterday. I want to reiterate that these changes are minor and I have no concern that my safety, the ability to drive the truck , or long term damage to stock suspension will ever be an issue. I do plan on upgrading my suspension this fall and I am looking forward to seeing what changes happen then. I zero regrets and could not be happier with my SSO bumper, along with their sales and service. @SouthernStyleOffRoad

What's the weight of just the bumper. I'm going to level my truck, but I'm waiting to install my bumper to see if the front drops any lower.

I saw 55lbs, but I'm not sure if that's the bumper itself ... or if it's the net increase of weight with the stock parts removed.

Bumper and Smitty x20 winch should be closer to 130lbs with the synthetic line.(bumper=55lbs and winch=65lbs)

55lbs is the SSO bumper weight. I dont believe it includes the weight of the hoop if added.

Install is really easy. Why not do it yourself? I do recommend at least 1 more set of hands to make it easier to mount. I actually had 2 sets to hold it in place while I through in a couple of the bolts to hold it.

Has anyone done a video of the install? I guess the hardest part is marking and cutting the bumper?

Even that looks easy to do, but it's definitely stressful. I see a lot of people leaving more of the bumper on than shown in the instructions ... otherwise a 1/4" to 1/2" gap remains.

That was me! Awesome in depth review on the stock OR suspension w/ the SSO & winch, exactly the feedback I was searching the forums for. After reading this I think I'll go ahead and give it a shot on the stock set up and eventually upgrade to some OME 885s (I don't really want to increase the overall height by >1.75"/45mm) or 6112 Bilsteins to help with the additional weight

    Thanks for the write up!

Well Superbad...I dunno, I just paid a ton of money for this truck and the idea of sawing into it myself seemed like a bad choice lol! But I need to do some more research into the cutting/mounting...

If you need help I'd be willing to help you. Just let me know when and where and I'll be there if I'm not working. I was in the same situation, truck is only 10 months old.

This sunday there is a dfw meet up. Link in my signature to our local thread if you haven't been in it.

Thanks for the offer and the invite SuperBad...it would be great to have someone do their "2nd" saw into a new truck...versus me doing my first.

no problem just shoot me a PM when/if you want help. I'm free most weekends and evenings after 6. I have a good dremel and ripstop blade to cut with that I used on mine.

Is anyone using a skid plate with their SSO slimline? I'm trying to figure out what will work in conjunction with it.
