Tacoma Newb Suspension Questions

    Hello,

    Been lurking awhile but it is time to get some feedback from the experts. Not my first toyota rodeo as I have owned an FJ60, four FZJ80's, and an 88 22r xtra cab 4x4. I'm a pretty capable wrench and enjoy working on my own stuff.

    Truck in question is a non-TRD DCSB super white 4x4 (4.0 auto).

    My last rig was a 2016 Ram Power Wagon that was just too much for me. Too big, too thirsty, too nice (it was a Laramie edition), etc. Decided to trade down to the 2015 Super White Taco and now I'm ready to make some upgrades.

    First step was to get a Pelfreybuilt aluminum front bumper on order. Geeked on that decision for about 2 months. I'm also having a Harrop elocker installed in the rear within the next few weeks.

    My plan for the truck is to daily drive it but also set it up for back country-style camping. I guess people call that overlanding? :) For tires, I am fitting 235/85-16 Cooper ST-Maxx tires (32" tires) on an extra set of stock steel wheels.

    In terms of the suspension, I just want to improve the ride, making it feel a little stabler and better with bigger bumps. I am not looking for a crazy high lift as my use of the truck will not likely require it, my tires don't require it, and I don't want to have to work too hard to get into the truck. I do want to do the suspension right and have a MAX of about $3,200. That obviously opens up lots of opportunities which makes it a little overwhelming. A local shop is recommending a Toytec Boss 2.5 kit with progressive AAL's and SPC/light racing control arms. For some reason, I like Icon stuff and have been thinking of a Stage 3 kit with tubular Icon control arms. My high end would be an OME BP-51 kit with dakar springs. The only thing I don't like about the OME BP-51 is it seems you cannot adjust spring preload (ride height) while they are on the truck. That takes me back to Toytec or Icon. Don't know much about King or Fox except I see them on "Bro Trucks" that race around town.

    On the lower end, I am a fan of basic OME stuff but I just want to make I get the right coils and leafs. I don't want something too harsh as I am not planning to carry a lot of weight unless I am on a trip.

    Contact Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road she'll help you get the right sruff. Honestly king or ADS coil overs are what you want if you want adjustability. For the rear dakars are very nice and affordable with 2 options in lift height and load capacities.
