Those are nice trailers. I have the single motorcycle version of that trailer. If you have that trailer available, I say, use it. Tailgates are way too expensive to risk. It's a shame someone doesn't make a REAL tailgate for the Tacomas.

Double-cab, shortbed is a tough configuration, for me. I like the interior room but that bed is just too small to haul bikes, for me. Plus, I would be worried about so muhc weight on the tailgate with sportbikes. Dirtbikes wouldn't be as big of a deal but I still wouldn't like it. I ended up going with the AC truck and the longer bed. There is obviously a trade-off though.

When I go to the MX races with 1 bike, I have the bike from corner to corner, tailgate closed. That is pretty nice because I can load up the bed and just keep the cleaner things inside in the access cab (helmet, gearbag etc). But for 2 bikes, with the tailgate open it makes it tough. Then I put tools inside if I can but then the access cab is totally filled. Any time the tailgate is down, I would recommend a MotoGate though. It is a nice addition, for safety.

Decided to go the safe route and rent a trailer for $50 2 days. Climbed some steep mountains and drove a bit fast so the taco only got about 210 miles out of a tank lol.

I have hauled my honda 919 (not a light sportbike at all) many a time with my DCSB without issue. Plenty of room length wise and width wise to haul two sport bikes.

Hell all sportbikes i have ever seen are much shorter than a full size dirtbike and i have no issue with them in my shortbed.

That stated, I do have a relentless fab FULL tailgate skin just cus and i didnt want to bend anything (never had an issue before i put it on, it was mainly peace of mind).

But two sportbikes worth of weight in the bed... yeah you are gonna need some proper leaf packs or at least some air bags.
