That's a spot that shouldn't be patched, even if done yourself. It's a high pressure area and you're more prone to a blowout or blowing the patch right out. By all means, give it a shot if you so desire, but really you should do what you can to replace the tire ASAP.

Not pretty when a rear tire goes... I'd rather have it on the front spin outs or rollovers can happen when you have a blowout or lose bead in rear at speed.. not trying to dad ya but it happened to me once driving a old vw with dry rot home after purchase .. I spun around and was facing my buddy following me in the middle of a curve... No accident but almost ... In my pants.

I ran over a 1/4' hex head bolt about six months ago in my wife's Cherokee; the same thing happened - a loud "POP!". I pulled over and the head of the bolt was through the center of the tread block. It took a heavy duty pair of vice grips to get it out.

I thought that was you? I've had a few issues but the only one I really spent any time bitching about on TW is my howling diff. Still bitching about that one. For the record, I'm pretty happy with my truck.

Deckmate. That's what holds my house together. I used them when I was a framing carpenter, awesome screws.
