I don't disagree that there are idiots, but there are also some stupid-ass regs. Flew my mavic out to watch some sailboats yesterday. Had to walk 20 feet to technically not be in Seattle Parks (no drone zone) when launching. They don't have any airspace authority, or authority over water.

Then there's that NPS prohibition. ... *sigh*

I am about to Join the Mavic club. I have been wanting one for a while but was holding out to find more info on the Spark. Now that the Spark videos are out I decided the Mavic Pro is best for me. I ordered the fly more kit.

The only app I use is DJI GO. I know there are a number of third party apps out there but where and how I fly DJI's app is fine. As far as no fly or restricted fly zones go... they're only going to get bigger since people continue to buy drones as toys instead of aerial platforms that are capable of flying very high into restricted airspace. It only takes a few to fuck it up for everyone. I'm concerned where I fly mine because of where I fly. I'm usually in a remote place with no chance of endangering anyone's property and I don't fly above 350'. I just don't see the need to fly any higher personally.

You can call the airfield if you're within the radius. "Hi tower, I will be conducting drone ops at (below tree level) at (geographical reference point appx X from your airstrip)." along with name and phone to contact in case of emergencies.

Was within a mile of seatac yesterday filming the bbq at a friend's place and showing the kids how to fly.

I am still a few days away from receiving My Mavic and have been trying to find out the answer to this but all I see is a bunch of bitching without any answers. Maybe there isn't one yet.

With the latest updates and the geofencing software if you are in a semi restricted or fully restricted zone are you able to over ride it? If you are in a sensitive area but have permission to fly can you go about your business or does the software tell your drone FU?

I've never had a problem flying mine anywhere. It'll just pop up and ask you if you have permission to fly or tell you what class air space you're around. I also live in Kentucky

Yup. You can totally override once you obtain permission. Unless it's a military base zone or something like that, then you need to get your FAA stuff and input it into the app.

I received mine today but by the time I got home and charged all the batteries it was pitch black. I did manage to get it paired with my phone (Note 4) and the remote and make a short back yard run. It works great so far. Now I am ready for a daylight run.

    Updates on the mavic?

I'm looking in to getting one in a few months. Was debating between it and the spark but I know the spark will only leave me wanting more

Which is why I want more info on the mavic. It's just a pricey sunnuva bitch. But just like with my kings, buy once cry once.

The Mavic seems to be nice. I have the Phantom 4, but I use it and get a little $ in return for what I do with it. If I wanted one for usage, I would have went with the Mavic. Storage for the number 1 reason because carrying the dang phantom around in that huge box to get some shots in the woods sucks. The easy break down turning on of the Mavic is idea.

I was looking st the phantom 4 as well. I like it a lot too but the size is the biggest turnoff for me. I won't make any money off it so it's all for personal usage haha. I'm thinking about saving for the next month and a half and buying the mavic.

Buy the Mavic. Simple as that. You will be disappointed with a Phantom series after you have flown the Mavic. And because it folds up into such a small package it easily fits in my DSLR bag with 4 lenses.

This is a raw shot of the falls in Ouray Colorado. There is no color grading nor splicing of the clip. It is a continuous clip from start to finish. I start to record as soon as I take off and never stop until I land. I've found that if you don't do this practice you miss a lot of nice filler shots.

Obviously the quick camera movements and lining up the shot won't be in the final film. I've got about 2 hours of video to sort through to make a video of our trip about 3 weeks ago.

A Phantom would have had a harder time with this flight due to the wind and closeness to the trees but the Mavic took it in stride as I was having to maneuver between the trees while ascending and descending.

Sure. The Spark is a cool little drone. DJI is going to be at the forefront for quite a while. While everyone is playing catch up DJI will keep innovating new products. The Spark is a "Baby" Mavic in a sense. It does the same thing that the Mavic does without as much control over the craft. It's made for people that are uncomfortable with actually flying but still getting some good shots. It's a really good starter drone. I've had my Mavic since January and "so far" it's been perfect. Before that I had an Inspire 1 V2 but along with what others are saying here about the Phantom being so big and bulky to carry around the Inspire is almost twice that problem. You have to plan your day around your shots since actually getting your craft where you want it and set up took quite a while. The Mavic is unfold it, do your preflight, and takeoff.
