Here is a video that I found on YouTube as far as tightening down the rear differential. To avoid having your truck repossessed by the dealer.

Don't sheer a bolt like others have let the dealer deal with it.

LOL ! Good god man , his pumpkin was about to fall out if all them bolts were that loose ! I checked mine and all were at 18 ft.lbs . I took em to 20ft. lbs. Mine is dry . I also would not tighten the bolts the way this fella does it . Just like tightening any bolts you should stagger the pattern .

Interesting that the drain plug is on the opposite side as mine.

The smaller diffs have the drain plug on the drivers side. The larger diffs (TRDORs and Manuals) have the plug on the passenger side.

    100% correct.
There is a specific bolt tightening pattern.
    Just like rims.

My guess, he was going to 33 like I specifically made that whole thread about NOT TO DO THAT on the 8" diffs.

And just so happened to get extremely lucky that he didn't youtube a *SNAP* ... "Oh shit!" moment.

If you're going from 18 to 20 ft lbs I would argue that you could do it in any order you feel, but at the same time it isn't wrong to stay in the habit of doing it properly.

Donny 16 Tacoma TRD sport has been at the dealership for a month now. With the dealership doing the bolt pattern and still has a leak. Does anyone have another idea or solution on how to fix the leak. Getting real sick of not having my own truck.

This! I watched the video also and though DAMN! Those things were loose. I would also question the torque wrench perhaps. Unless it is a calibrated high dollar torque wrench, I would NOT recommend doing this on your own. I once had a cheap wrench from AutoZone that could double as a breaker bar. I have since upgraded to a SK and had it calibrated and it is accurate up to 4in/lbs. As many turns as he got, I am curious if they are truly at 18 ft/lbs.....:fingerscrossed:

^^ Or open a account on the Toyota web site and after you log in there will be the recall information on the left of the page. Once you take it in to the service department the red check mark will turn to green.

I'm at 11,500 miles and haven't noticed a leak. I am going to torque the carrier bolts, check the fluid level and keep on driving.

I just got the Ameritruck repossessed this morning after going in for a simple Toyotacare oil change. Not happy at all about the prospect of tooling around in a rental Corolla for a month. Bitched up a storm, and Enterprise is going to try to get me a truck at some point.

Staying subbed to the diff threads now to see how fucked I really am.

I just had the EXACT same experience out here on Maui just yesterday. My truck is now being held hostage while I am driving a f***ing prius.... thats right. A prius. I feel like enterprise did this one on purpose. No I have to drive an hour and a half across the island to swap for a truck or SUV on Monday.

They were VERY dodgy with me and wouldn't really tell me what was going on with the parts and such. Any idea why there aren't parts or a fix for the issue? I cant really find much on the recall. Pretty shady if you ask me.

Waiting on gaskets and bolts is all I know, and they don't want the trucks rolling in the event a diff seizes and causes a wreck.

I think they're still gunshy after those idiots and the accelerator pedals.
