I just finished stage 1 of my flip hitch mounted tire carrier...

I have been wanting 33s for ever but was running 32s and last fall finally pulled the trigger on 33s, new rims and they are sweet. But wait there is no way to carry a 33" spare and I want to keep going out west. I plan on getting a rear bumper but that another 2 grand and still thinking about getting a new truck...

I remember seeing hich mounted carriers but none of them filp because you have to make your own and I did..

In fact all the parts are on Amazon and linked together so I'm not the first one... About 100 bucks..

Fairly easy cut off the the receiver drill 2 holes buy hardware stage 1..
Won't fit stock wheels 4 3/4 BS w 285s just clear with a little grinding..
Stage 2 I'll do some welding and add a mount for my rotopax..
Tested it on the road no problems at all...
I would say good for light off roading / overlanding, I'll take it off for the dunes..
I be out next week and over the 4th I'm going to the dunes..

    Up date:

Made a run up north and worked great. No problems and seams strong enough to take a beating. I'm still going to do some welding...

Can still open the tonneau cover with out moving it and flips down when I need to...

Seams tougher than I thought it would be...

You don't have problems with the law about blocking the tag?

Not yet, but only use it for going trips and everyone here is hauling or towing up north, so you can't see anyone's rear plate.
I'm sure for every day driving you would get hassled, but don't think this is a everyday driving mod, but it seams really stable.

I'll use it to go to the dunes, but I'll just leave it at my moms house there so when I'm driving around I don't get messed with and I'm going to be tearing around on the dunes fairly hard.

Great mod till I can get a bumper.

Even my 32" AT3 didn't fit under the truck, it was rubbing on the exhaust, leaf spring mount and the rear end was hitting it....

wilco off road and a few others make really nice ones, but they are not cheap. I needed a cheap fix till I get a bumper.

I've been kicking around the idea of adding a tire gate to my bumper, but have to many instances where I need to leave the tailgate down to haul stuff. Have a bedrack, but that totally takes away the bed space too so I leave it off except to go wheeling. I like this idea because it would still allow for me to drop the tailgate and not loose the space.

Did this on my truck today. I have a bed rack that I use off-roading, but I don’t like running it all the time because I want full use of the bed and the ability to lay down the tailgate when hauling. Works well with my All-pro bumper. Need to figure out what I’m going to do with the license plate, probably going to mount to the spare. Great idea OP!

Yeah I almost got one, but couldn't see paying that much and than getting a swing out bumper.. This is my temporary fix till I get a swing out bumper.

I found a simpler solution: I beat down the spare retaining tabs to fit my 33’s

    Crom’s 33” spare solution

    And relocated the spare elevator

    Works like a charm.

I did the same thing, but when I added the high clearance hitch behind my bumper it pushed the spare back to where it would contact the rear diff on occasion I can still run it under the bed if I have to, but don’t like to do it all the time

I'll have to ck it out...
I've thought about it but my 32s fit so tight..
My 32s hit the rear diff with the stock set up...
I have my 32s on now and stuffed my spare in there.
Before I put my 33s back on I'll have to ck out the space...

Ultimately I'll have a new rear bumper with a swing out....
