Catalytic converter questions.

    On vehicles with California emissions is there any physical or functional differences between the primary and secondary catalytic converter? I have heard the secondary referred to as the "Cold Cat" functioning while the primary warms to temp. Basically I am wondering if say two Magnaflow universal catalytic converter's can be ran in succession?
