I sealed the deal...meeting him tomorrow morning. I'll do a hot run then get some bacon ends/pieces to season it. Thanks for the pointers!

btw, here's a decent book I bought when I first got my WSM... it definitely helps you quickly figure out a few unique things about the bullet style smokers, and it has quite a few good recipes as well. Nothing in any of this racket is etched in stone, and you'll learn way more by trial and error than any book will tell you, but if you want a book to go along with your newfound sickness, this one is decent...

Great...all I needed was another "sickness". Thanks for the book recommendation!

Just got home from picking up the new-to-me WSM 18 and making a Sam's Club run for all the charcoal, wood, etc.

Cleaned it up now getting ready to do the hot run to burn everything off. Going to smoke some fatty stuff next to get the inside coated with goodness.

That thing looks like it's in great shape. $150? Smoking (pun intended) deal!

Yes sir! $150 and he met me part way. Looks to be used a couple times only then sat...inside was super shiny and had no buildup. He said he bought a pellet smoker and this just sat.

Gave me the instruction manual (with date of purchase written on it (2yrs old)) and cover that was never used. It sat under a patio cover.

Rub arrived fine in the package. Was too late to use it on the ham today, maybe I'll do something tomorrow with it.

Gonna have to order more. Wife units says this is the rub for Moniks now..have to agree it'll work with the sauce perfect with the rubs touch of heat..so next batch is the 26th?

Picking up a 55 gallon drum tomorrow to make a UDS this week so I can start smoking! Anyone got some tips for me for a first timer in regards to smoking? The build looks very straight forward, maybe an hour tops

@dan0mite you will love that WSM, especially once it gets broken in -- if it isn't already. Mine took a few cooks to get a nice "cake" on the inside, but now holds temp and flavor like a champ. Watch the bottom vents. They can get a bit gummed up with ash. The ash grate seems to let the coals fall through too soon for me, so I picked up a second grate to set at 90 to the bottom grate to hold the coals better, but got the wrong size. :frusty: Do better than me!

Got my pound of rub on Friday to go on a nice fat pork loin for smoking tomorrow. This is gonna be good.

Nice! I haven't pulled the WSM apart yet but from all that I've seen, the extra grate at 90° for the coals is a must!

The wife is already telling me I need to smoke something better than brats now.
