Gather round for the story of...the CHUPANIBRE.....wait. No, THE PEANUT BUTTER DREAM MACHINE.

What a dumb name, right? Don't look for that anywhere on the vehicle, that's it's secret name, and if you say it just right, it will come to you.

    Current:
    tacoma-5.jpg
    Pulling this:
    trailerbuild-1937.jpg

To everyone else, the name of the truck is "That ugly color." Don't worry, they will come around.

My build starts off like anyone elses, at a dealership. A friend works there, and I was happy to make him a few bucks, and he was happy to sell me my first 4wd truck.

    Spec info:
    Suspension:
OME 887 coils front w/ Soft Ride Nitrocharger Sport shocks from OME. 1/4" trim spacer on driver side.
Dakar Light duty leaf pack w/ Nitrocharger Sport shocks.
    ECGS Bushing replacement.
    Light Racing UCAs.

    Tires:
    Falken Wildpeak AT3/W - 265/75/r16 - Load Range E

    Radio:
    TYT TY-7800 Dual Band Radio

I had some good times in the Silverado, but now it was time for a different kind of adventure, one in which the vehicle wouldn't break down and cause interesting mid-adventure-adventures....

Oh sure, lots of people hate the 3rd (pronouced Turd) Gen Tacomas, but there's two main reasons probably.

    1. They don't have a Quicksand colored one.
    2. They don't take it off road.

(Both of these issues have my sincerest pity)

So I ripped off the badging right away. I hated how those raised letters grab my wash cloth. Also I wanted MPGs boost so I went naked on the sides. It made zero difference, just as I suspected.

    2016-08-28 15.32.48.jpg

I waited 7 whole days before I removed the grill. Time to derP!

    2016-08-31 20.39.54.jpg
    2016-09-01 08.04.22.jpg

It was kinda meh, too flat for my tastes, too blacked out. I hate chrome, but it just didn't look right. Oh well, I fixed it later.

Boom! Got some cool looking vinyl from @rrentrop. Now it's a frickin build son.

    2016-09-14 16.10.08.jpg

And, here's some sweet lights. They actually work super well and it's incredibly helpful for camping.

    2016-09-14 16.10.39.jpg

I took a break from fiddling with my truck for a few months because I had to build a Tilt-a-Whirl. This is a true story and we do this every year as part of the Orange Lion's Club in Orange, TX. For a few months I'm an actual carnie. And yes, I bought a mullet wig and cut off a t-shirt so I could run the Tilt looking like Joe Dirt, and it was money well spent. If I can find a picture of this, I'll post it.

Next, I got a roof rack.
    2016-10-18 13.58.47.jpg

Man, all of this is getting kinda boring. Let's speed this up:

Roof basket didn't fit too well, modified it. Kinda didn't like it:
    2016-11-01 12.51.19.jpg

I guess I thought this was offroading. I didn't know anyone on here at this point, and it shows.
    2016-11-03 17.33.01.jpg

I pulled a stuck truck out, first recovery. Used all that recovery gear I bought for no good reason. Now it's a good reason.
    2016-12-07 12.46.30.jpg

Bought sliders because I figured I needed them for all that not-offroading I was doing. Why do anything? I frickin wanted them.
2016-12-07 22.28.11.jpg They are sliders. The end.

I genuinely don't know what I was going for here. Still haven't been off road.

Then I put on 1.25" spacers. You know...for the bros? It threw stuff all over my truck.
    2016-12-22 19.25.49.jpg

I actually liked this photo. But still, I removed the spacers later. Too much side wall throwing up stuff action.

I finally went wheeling! OMG Yes, now it's getting good!

I noticed my wife's truck was taller than mine, probably cause I lifted her 4Runner. I was jealous.
    2017-04-15 16.27.31.jpg

So I derped my rims to get back at her:
    2017-06-08 18.39.40.jpg

Haha, just kidding, I spent a ton of money on a lift and THEN derped the rims.

I'm digging the build man... Keep up the good work.

Which roof rack did you buy? And why did you ditch the basket?

OEM Roof rack, I made the basket fit but I am gonna do a bed rack and stick it there instead. Basket was a $100 job from Amazon, not bad tho.

Oh yea, I guess I should put that on the first post. One sec. And thanks, I'm certainly liking how it's looking.

Thanks, I'm certainly not the first, I saw 'em somewhere else, but I did really like the black and tan look so I said screw it. Funny story, however...almost screwed up. I bought the Dip by looking at the cap, but not reading the actual color. Slapped a coat on yesterday and realized it looked a bit blue. I bought the black w/ blue in it. So I just used that as a base coat and while it was drying, and I rode my bike to the store to buy flat black.

Why ride my bike? Cause I had 30 minutes till the next coat, my wife was still at work, and my front wheels of my truck were on the ground with paint on them.

And by bike, I don't mean this:

The first time I saw one in person I don't remember what I said, but my wife looked at me and said, "I hate that color, but I can tell by the way you look at it you're going to get that one, aren't you?"

I'd like to say I got it just to spite her, but that's not entirely true, that's just a pleasant bonus.

Ok two things today, both trailer related....

#1, my truck might have been on ESPN2 during the Bassmaster Open weigh in, since they needed it to pull a Pro Angler's boat. Apparently only Toyota's are allowed to pull the boats on TV due to sponsorship, and my wife is helping run the event so she got me hooked up.

Here's shot of it in front of the weigh in booth.
    bassmaster-1738.jpg

Secondly, and more excitingly, I'm currently repainting my adventure trailer for camping season. Just so you know, in Southeast Texas, it's currently NOT camping season. It starts in September or so. It's so abysmally hot here right now you don't camp unless you have ac. It's 85 degrees and 75% humidity at midnight. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Anyways, channeling a sweet paint job and decal from the 80's, here's my progress so far.

    2017-06-16 16.41.45.jpg
I'm still assembling, including the corner pieces, but expect updates on this soon. I'm going to include this in my build thread because I'm currently working on it instead of the truck. I'm happy with how the truck is for now.

I'm going to be making some videos of the build. It might explain better than a wall of text and help others do mods.

Trailer Update! I got my tailgate on thanks to the sweet welding from @Tacodriver08, and he also fabbed me up some mounts for the trailer rack. I decided to bolt the frame together so I can keep it modular and add and remove stuff to haul ladders, lumber, kayaks, and of course, my RTT.
