It'll definitely be interesting to see the difference between where my bumper wound up versus where yours did!

Mine is basically back to where it would exist if there weren't a body lift installed. I'm kinda curious to see how far the bottom of your grille is from the winch plate and see if it's anything close to what mine was before I moved it down.

And by the way, your truck is badass, Billies or not. And unlike mine, it's actually trail-proven!

We better not only be doing the Kokopelli :p only doing that on the way into Moab for RT, def plan on hitting harder stuff during RT. I'm not driving cross country to take it too easy.

Speaking of you geeking out @jubei777 can you figure out actual mileage per indicated mile?

I'm definitely looking forward to the Kokopelli and Moab! And I'm definitely going to run some trails that will challenge my truck. It'll be nice to have some buddies with me in case shit gets too hectic, but my focus is gonna be more on scenery and getting my desert fix. I miss it like crazy!

I'm sure I could back out a correction factor that you could use to get your mileage. Wouldn't be too difficult, really.

I just don't want to know my mileage!

We should hit Spring Creek soon. That'll be a good tester - not terribly difficult, but worth the challenge. I'd like to hoof it out to Chinaman sometime relatively soon, too.

Got a couple minor electrical things sorted out and discovered another electrical issue that will need more attention down the road.

    Turn Signal Hyperflash Fix

First order of business was to deal with my hyperflashing turn signals. When I mounted up my new bumper, it came with a couple little LED turn signals. Since the 1st Gens have their stock turn signals in the bumper valence, you have to find a new home for the front turn signals.

In this case, the new LED turn signals trip out the relay due to the fact that they draw such a small amount of current compared to the stock incandescent bulbs. The relay thinks that the low current draw means a bulb is out, and then initiates the hyper flash to let you know.

The easiest fix is to buy a $10 LED ready flasher relay and swap it in, which is what I did.

    IMG_3994.PNG.jpg

Simple, relatively cheap, and it works perfectly while preserving the dead bulb warning hyperflash functionality.

    DRL Disable

Next up was disabling my DRLs. After thoroughly confusing myself and tearing apart a good portion of my dash, I finally found the main DRL relay right where everyone said it would be behind the dash on the right above the accelerator pedal.

After clipping and securing the white/green wire in position #1 on the relay connector and then connecting it back to the relay, everything worked flawlessly. No more DRL and no weak Hi Beam indicator which others were getting when they clipped the white/black wire in position #2. I couldn't be happier. If I want added visibility, I'll turn on my low beams like an independent, responsible adult.

Oh, and I adjusted my headlights after installing the new ones with the new grille and new side markers. I'm pretty certain I was pissing some people off because the driver side headlight was quite a bit high.

    Alarm System Hack Job

The issue I discovered is the cheesy Clifford alarm that the PO had installed. When I pulled the knee panel to get to the turn signal relay this mess puked itself out of the dash.

    IMG_3992.jpg

Clamp on connectors galore and also quite a fucking rat's nest. I want to (figuratively) kill it with fire and install a quality alarm system later on. But for now I have bigger issues that deserve my attention, so I pulled all of the alarm fuses I could find and then zip tied the shit out of it all to keep it from just bouncing around on the knee panel. Lame, but hopefully effective.

    ---

Anyway, now it's back to some mechanical stuff and wrapping up other loose ends. More updates later.

It was more of a disappointment.

I'm hoping that the wiring for the craptastic alarm is pretty easily distinguishable from the OE harness, because I'm cutting that bullshit out at some point soon.
I'm really looking forward to doing this! Even if it's 'easy', I'm dying to see the scenery along the way.
    :pout:

    :cookiemonster:

I swear to Odin that this damn thing will be on a trail within the next couple weeks! Hopefully next weekend, if work behaves itself.
We're thinking of hitting the Kokopelli on the way to Rock Therapy in October. We being a bunch of super cool 1st Gens. So far, it's me, @alee891, @cynicalrider, @Reh5108, and maybe @Squeaky Penguin and possibly @Robmonster117.

I'll definitely be the Moab virgin along with Mike, but we all have some decent experience wheeling. And like Monte said, Kokopelli for the most part is just scenic awesomeness with some easy wheeling mixed in.

Sounds like it's going to be a fun time. I'm hoping to have my pile up and rolling come mid August, want it to be able to make the journey down to Arizona with me instead of leaving it in Washington.

Thanks man :) At this point I'm just looking for a junked 4cyl Tacoma with a decent frame and body. Perfection isn't necessary, I'm gonna go stripped interior since it'll just be a wheeler. There's gotta be some blown motor Tacos out there that people have given up on.

Bring it on, man! Always good to have another Best Gen with Moab experience.

We have a group PM set up that has died down a bit, but I'm sure it'll fire back up as we get closer. I'll add you!

I have a similar rats nest. I cut the wires to the siren, removed the LoJack satellite signal thing, but can't remove the full system only because it still controls my keyless entry. I did what you did and just cleaned it up best as I could.

The Runner would have no problem doing Kokopelli, right? It would be sweet to see the family truckster in action!
