I currently have the Bilstien 6112/5160 set up and its digressive

Im moving to kings and its progressive..

has anyone made the switch before? Im wondering how Ill like the ride vs my old set up.

LA has some harsh roads so im basically off road all the time... haha

I have actually heard good things about all 3 brands and a few bad about them all as well.

Also... I currently like my old set up I just need more lift and dont want to run a spacer

Did you not just get Kings in the group buy you are supposedly running? Why question it now?

Yeah I just got them but havent installed them. I dont have second thoughts, just wonder what people have experienced because of the digressive/progressive switch.

I like the current set up on the road. its a little lacking on major bumps on a fire road but I think thats the nature of digressive shocks.. smooth but not able to handle the harder bumps.

are you here to troll me in this post too or do you actually have input?

Just wondering why you would ask this AFTER you made a major purchase is all. I run Foxes and love them.

then why are you in a group buy for kings?

also, we are here to chat and get feedback from other members. Maybe someone will have my set up and can give me some pointers on settings or something that would be useful.

I like fox and considered them as well... I think they are totally on far with king but I have heard a few negatives about their customer service

bilstein 6112 are digressive as well

basically.. from what ive heard, read and felt so far....

a digressive shock is meant to be smoother on road and has a harder time absorbing larger bumps and dives (like when you bottom out)

A progressive shock will be a little stiffer on road (could feel smooth as well) but progressively gets stiffer to handle the bigger bumps/dives...

someone could and should explain it better than I can, at least thats what Im hoping for too

i need 2.5/3 inches in the front and I think the ext comes with 2 or 2.5? im not sure yet. I need to clear 285/75's

Im excited that you like your set up. I didnt go with the stiffer spring but now im thinking maybe I should have. I might add a bumper soon

i was planning on new bumps but havent decided on which to go with

I dig my foxes, but you definitely feel the difference on road. It's definitely more stiff.

I got 119 ext and 121 ext. supposed to give you about 2 inches the way they set them up. I think I need 2.5 ish. So they told me 5 turns is 1 inch. So I'll need like 3

    I ordered TC uppers too.

I ran kings on my truck before going to LT with kings. I came from the Baja suspension side, but I feel the kings have a nice healthy slight stiffness on road, but off road is where you will see the real gains. They are butter smooth IMO, makes driving around town a joy while just being on the road.

I prefer progressive suspension as it is soft at slow speeds and slowly gets stiffer at higher speeds, but I think King is one of the best choices out there for progressive if that is what you want.

yeah I keep getting conflicting info.

I want soft on city streets and a little firm off road... I think thats the king set up I got... I needed 3 inch lift anyway so I needed a new set up regardless.

Folks.....a digressive shock will be more firm on small bumps, and street driving. Larger hits and bumps will feel softer.

    Progressive is the opposite.

A progressive shock will firm up quickly on big hits, where as a digressive shock will allow the hit to use more of the suspensions travel. While bilstien claims to be in the digressive category, they use a generic valve rate which is the same for every application across the board of products they sell. So....if you are thinking you ate getting a specially valves shock for the Tacoma, from bilstien, your not. King and fox, along with icon, all valve for each vehicle.

Keep in mind, lifting a vehicle with a fixed length of travel, will not equate to a softer ride. Even if you use magic unicorn shocks. Lift is achieved with more spring rate. More spring rate means firmer ride. This can be dealt with by using shocks with the correct t calving for the spring rate, and vehicle dynamics. Nothing an off the shelf shock can give.
