Holy crap! That must've been some washboard!!! 5100 should hold up ok unless rallying fsr's at high speeds is a regular thing for you. Hopefully this incident didn't screw your outing up too badly. Did you get credit for the oem shock at the dealer for replacement?

I figured the warranty claim wasn't even worth it. Sorry for the question, but, what is outing? Leaf springs appeared in good shape, didn't notice any other issues.

"Outing" would be the trip you were on when your shock blew up! hahaha

Don't I feel like a goon. Hell no, rear end felt weird but just kept it pinned. This was on the powerine road from Barstow to state line.

Wow, no matter what washboard or speed that should not happenen. The rear shocks on our Tacoma's are the limiting straps. They hold all the brake lines and wiring from getting over stretched at full droop . That's the way Toyota designed it , shocks have an internal bump stops. No way is that driver error that's a defective shock.

I talked to Toyota over the phone. They made it sound like driver error. I said screw it and installed 5100 with new 265/75/16 ko2. It's looking sick.

I had my passenger side leak on my first camping trip. A lot of washboards, probably a bit over payload capacity, and not airing down tires pushed if over the edge. Kind of my fault for a 46mm shock body. Still replaced under warranty.

Mine din't look anything like the OP's, though. I would suggest that if the OP wants to bomb roads that would do that to Bil 4600s, 5100s or 2.0" emulsion shocks are a waste of money as a replacement. They'll just blow out too. Might as well just bite the bullet and get 2.5" with resi's.

Lesson learned, i think airing down is a must, not an option. I figured it was easy enough terrain that it was optional. Oops.
