I'm selling my 2004 Tacoma and my question is this. Would I get more for my truck if I leave the Leer shell on? Or should I sell the shell separately. Mark

I would go without. But that's just me. I'm sure you could get the same price with it off, and sell the topper for extra ducketts.

Sell it with two prices, and make the price difference what you would ask for the shell by itself. Problem solved.

That way the buyer gets an option and you don't have to commit to hiding it in the back yard. You rarely get asking price anyways.

Finding toppers for first gens seems more difficult these days but that doesn't translate into higher prices for the used topper. What it does mean is that if a buyer wants a topper he's gonna search far and long for one that already has one.

I'd just leave it on just to save me the anger-agro-bation factor of dealing with CL people

Is it perhaps a four door, and white?

    Pretty much stock right now
I tried to sell my '01 with an aluminum shell, but the buyer didn't want it. It made no difference on the selling price either way, but it's not a particularly attractive shell, just utilitarian. I still have it actually, though not on my '03; that has a nice fiberglass ARE MX shell. it's just behind the shed.

I would for sure take it off. It makes little difference in value on the truck, but is worth a substantial amount separate. When I was truck shopping trucks with a leer canopy would either be the same price, or a small amount more, but a leer canopy by itself was selling for a lot of money. I'd separate the two

More than likely you'd get more if you sold them separately. But you just have to ask yourself if that few extra bucks is worth the extra effort.

I'd definitely sell separately, that is if you have the room to store for a while.
Or do the "two price" thing...

That's what we're here for.

Anybody knows of a 1st. gen. double cab canopy, in white, let me know. Worse case, for the right price, I could paint it I guess.

Does anyone have any experience fitting a 2nd. gen. shell to a 1st. gen? The dealers I talk to say it's a no-go. Then again, they want to sell me a $2k topper...

    Lucky,
That was me that posted it :)
It thought that one was an extra cab. But I may wait to see if a white top shows up.
Thanks, I'll keep it in mind
