i dont have anything bad to say about any oil filter. i am sure they both have pros and cons. some more than other perhaps. i only use 1 filter now because of my (personal experience) which is what the oil looks like on the dipstick after 1k mi. but i will prolly open up a few used fram/stp/wix/k&n (which i use) and might buy a trd filter just to do my own comparison on the filtering media etc. but i gotta go wheelin now.

There is the way to go
just don't open a 6-7 dollar Pure One and compare it to a 2-3 dollar PH ( bottom grade) Fram compare it to a TG or XG Fram

everyone should use any filter they feel comfy with. i used FRAM for so many years. i even painted my model car's filters orange. reading and learning..i up'd it to what i feel is a better filter. i have been using WIX forever now.

    NONE.....yet!
I guess dog's point is that you get what you pay for.....Fram is a bargain filter. He has yet to realize it is crap though........to each his own.

Some people are so far behind they think they're ahead.

Construction, filter media, capacity, efficiency. Look at the numbers on the choices you have. If you cannot find them or they only give you one that they are good at........... Not all filters are created equal, not every filter fits every intended use.

Make fun of cutting open filters. It is a diagnostic technique from the ages. Cutting one upen with a chain cutter is like using a giant pipe cutter. You can go just through the can and not touch the internals.

Good filters are cheap compared to engines

You guys are all "suckers", I make my own filters. I get an old aluminum can, put a lot of cotton balls into it, then duct tape to motor. And that's it, that's how you make your own filter 101.

lol....I knew this thread was going to erupt into a Fram filter quality issue argument, just like a lot of the other filter threads. Have fun everyone, Deja Vu anyone?

    Pretty much.

Well, you go ahead and keep putting poorly made filters on your vehicle all you want. I don't buy crappy products or support companies that make them as a general rule. They can live off your business.

I've done my fair share of Fram bashing here at TW, so I'll refrain from this thread. I'll leave it at this, I can get oversized Purolator PureOne filters from Amazon for the same price as a Fram Orange Can. Last let me add you can't rationalize with irrational people.

"proven" time and time again? So I supposed you tore them apart "time and time again" to verify their "proven" status?

Everyone knows Fram is junk. They are another one of those companies who is great at marketing, but has a sub-par product.

Even with a LITTLE research a common house cat could figure this out.

Do you work for Fram or something?

I have always been told that its better to use a cheap oil filter and change it more often than to use an expensive filter and do extended changes. Reason being the micron count in the filter. Good filters have very good filtering (fine micron) and they also have a by-pass. Cheap filters dont filter very well (lage micron) and no by pass.

Ive heard of old dirty engines plugging good filters in a few thousand km and just going in to by-pass mode and doing no filtering. The cheap one filters all the time tho...

Just another view on the whole subject, Flame away!

X2 on U. I was told years ago by good mechanics and trusted parts guys, not $8 an hr kids with no experience, to always go with the good names like Moog, Wagner, Bendix, etc. and you won't go wrong. Don't buy off brands to save a couple of $. It doesn't pay in the long run.

I agree - Fram makes a crap filter. Purolater or Toyota filters for me.

I vote for this guy's voice-over on a Tacoma TV commercial. Priceless.

Fram oil filters are not the best on the market, but that does not mean they are crap. After all, a Fram oil filter will not void the manufacturer's warranty, so they must be good enough... let's call them "adequate." But anyone who enjoys their truck enough to be on this forum will probably not be satisfied with adequate or good enough. So we have this ongoing debate. I have other things to worry about so I just use the Purolator PureOne and fuhgeddaboudit.

I have torn down the PH line of Fram. Yes they are economy made, but they are made to be trashed after 3,000 miles. They will last 3,000 miles.
They will not damage your vehicle and are fine for what they are .

For the most part I use WalMart ST filters or Purolator filters

In fact i just bought some from Amazon cheap 2 for under 10.00
free shipping if order is 25.00 or more
    http://www.amazon.com/Purolator-PL20195-PureONE-Filter-Pack/dp/B000H7WANQ/ref=pd_sim_auto_10

That will keep me for 30,000 miles .
