My 2015 DCSB with just 18,800 miles gave me the death clicks last week. I charged the battery, let the truck run for about 30 minutes and shut it off. An hour later the battery was so dead it wouldn't even click. Charged it back up and drove to the dealer. They said the battery was no good and replaced it under warranty. I asked if this was normal and was told I should get about 4.5 years from a battery in Florida (hard A/C starts). This battery didn't make it half that time. The dealer didn't have any explanation. Thoughts?

    Defective batteries are not uncommon.

Like all things man made, some are fuckered from day one.

Enjoy the new battery. If the next one dies in a year, then raise an eyebrow.

You could have had a bad cell or something from the battery manufacturer, glad you got it replaced. Do you have frequent short trips that require a high number of starts per mile?

I see you have a build page. What accessories do you have directly connected to the battery?

Lots of factors go into lifespan of a battery, so it's believable

They just make excuses because they can. Florida, AC starts, blah blah blah. Bunk.

You got a bum battery. They replaced it. Good for you.

If the dealer replaced it with a Toyota TrueStart battery, I hope you have better luck with it than I've had with this brand.

The battery in my 2013 died at about 18 months. I bought a replacement at AutoZone (it was on a Sunday) and sent the receipt to Toyota and they sent me a check to cover it. Unfortunate, and it happens, but Toyota did right by it.

I think my original battery lasted about 6 years. Replaced it when it sounded like it was struggling to crank over the engine.

Had the same thing happen on my 2015, the dealer replaced it for free without me even asking. I too thought it was strange, but these things happen. You wouldn't imagine how many batteries I saw come back testing bad right off the shelf back in my days of working at a retail parts house.

    Heat and undercharge kills batteries

cranking over an engine removes some reserve and can take 5-15 minutes to recharge the battery up to full depending on all the accessories that are on

My '14 battery lasted about 25k miles (two years). Replaced under warranty. A minor inconvenience but worth it.

We've been in NE Florida for 25 years now and in general our car's batteries have lasted to the end of their warranty, past the replacement period an far enough into the pro-rated part that it's not worth the bother--the best have been Walmart's top-of-the-line now called EverStart Maxx (they were called something else IIRC). Three year free replacement, two years pro-rated warranty; made by Johnson Controls same as many other brands, including the famed and once best there was Optima (Optima's are now no better than any other brand's premium battery)...

Replaced the one in my wife's '03 Highlander in March at 4 years/9 months old--put one in my '09 Taco at the end of April to replace the 5 year/one month old Everstart that came with the truck. We have used 5 or 6 of these over the years with no problems...
