Any Appliance Guys Out There?

Noticed my 4 year old Whirlpool side by side hasn't been working as well lately. Also the middle wall between the freezer and fridge was hot. I took the cardboard backing off the unit and vacuumed the heck out of it. I noticed one time the fridge turned on and the fan underneath did not turn on. Long story made short... I took the fan out, cleaned it up really good, put a couple of "3 in 1" oil drops on the fan's shaft and it is blowing much better and spinning faster.
My question is this. Should that fan blow air toward the compressor or suck the air away from the compressor? Mine is sucking. Im guessing this is right as there is no way to get the wiring backwards.

I'm no appliance guy but my step-father was and I worked with him for several years when I was younger. I think you have it right. From what I remember that fan pulls air from the front to back of the unit. It pulls air from the coils underneathe the fridge and the compressor. That's why you have to clean the coils every once in while to prevent excess "lint".

 

You've got it right. The fan should be pulling air over (or away) from the compressor.

Thanks guy's. I put it all back together last night. I will watch it this weekend and see how it seems by Monday. It seems cooler this morning already.
