The plastic splash guard inside the wheel well of the drivers side, rattles when i close the door. I have looked at it and the plastic screw(?) on the bottom is loose. I tried tightening it but it is plastic and doesn't want to turn very easily and I don't want to strip it out. Is really a screw? Ideas?

This is the large plastic insert that fits in the wheel well. the rattle is annoying every time I close the door.

Smitty, have you tried to tighten the plastic fasteners? One of mine is loose and I believe if I could tighten it up it would help. Not sure what kind of fastener it is.

Thats my problem also. Think they will pull out and replaced with a washer, bolt and nut?

Do you know what they look like or how they attach?

I had the same problem. Removed ALL plastic fasteners and replaced them with screws and nuts. All tight now.

Yeah, mine was rattling also... I checked and the plastic inner fender had worked itself over the under-sized washer/screw ..... I just removed the screw and added a larger washer.... Works for me .. for now....!!

Do the fasteners just screw out? Did you have to drill holes or just use the same holes?
    Thanks

I just got back from the dealer 2 hours ago, getting an oil change and brake parts for a
home job later...and felt up under 4 different 2017 Tacomas. None of the plastic wobbled
or rattled. I could bend it by pressing on it but no rattles and nothing felt loose. I could
only bend it a bit. when I reached up and flicked it, it snapped back no rattle

new truck, dealer should remedy with new fastener parts

I removed the screws (not the plastic insert) at the bottom of liner and put bigger washers on it. That helped a lot. The top plastic fasteners are still loose and I don't see an easy way to get to them to replace them. It is much better now but not all good.

I popped the fasteners on mine, cleaned the contact points between bed and splash shield, then glued them with this semi permanent adhesive that peels off fairly easily (does need some force) when removal is needed. Don't over apply it as it's kinda runny.
This stuff works better than shoe goo and will hold side moldings and badges really well! Cures most anything loose and vibrating on the interior panel clips too.

Good idea. I could seal the top plastic fasteners and take all the play (and thus the rattle) out of them! These inserts are not tight at all. They are very loose.

I imagine some silicon rubber squeezed under them might do the trick also.
