We had to give up our 2004 Tacoma and replaced it with a 2017 with factory tow package (7 and 4-pin). We want to install a brake controller and have the plug and play adapter with a Tekonsha P3. Is this truly plug and play? I read we have to check that 12V pin is "hot". Is that true?
    Thanks--New to all this!

I just plugged my controller in and it worked. Plug was well hidden behind the harnes in the lower left corner under the dash near the firewall.

I have the tow package and P3 as well. It is indeed plug and play. Behind the drivers side kick panel, and buried under some wires is a pig tail you can connect to your wiring harness. It will allow the P3 to connect to the truck without splicing any wires.

This is the harness I used:

You can also use this mounting plate to conveniently mount the P3 to the dash. It is worth the investment in my opinion.

I have the same set up on my 2017 OR, just bought adapter and plugged it in! Works great, should show that it has power when you plug it in and when you disconnect it should show no trailer. Great controller!
