center pins and axle shims??????

I installed the Axle Shims (sans instructions) I bought from Toytec. My truck has had the TSB pack installed. After I installed them, I read a post about center pins being long enough. Has anyone with the TSB pack installed the 3* shims w/o changing the center pins? I believe they may be long enough, but not sure..

not sure on second gens but on my 1st gen i def. needed to get different center pins with a longer head to work with my 2.5* shims. hope this helps.

 

I made mine longer by tig welding them but alcan spring makes a longer {head] center bolt... give them a call 888-321-0870

good post, i was going to ask the very same thing!! have a set of OME leafs and want to add the 3* shims..what centering pin do you guys use that have this setup?

 

Without the longer heads, it's a dangerous setup. Plus those horrible degree shims will eventually crack in half if they're cast. I can't stand them and will never use them.

 

so what do you suggest to correct the pinion angle w/ my OME leafs?

 

If there aren't any driveline vibes w/o them, then I wouldn't worry about them, just run quality u-joints. I know it sounds crazy, and I'm sure allot of people will disagree, but that's how much I hate them. (mainly because they're cast and break in half) If I were to use something like that, I'd make them from steel and add the taper myself, then use the long headed pins. Maybe I'm onto a new product here? My Chevy is lifted 6.5" and I just use quality Spicer u-joints and have no vibes.(for like 15 years now, it was my DD until about 4 years ago) I definitely recommend checking them occasionally for cracks.

 

^ well i have vibes from about 10-15 mph, so this is the reason im looking for shims. i have read guys adding the 3* shims and this fixes the vibes, so...

where did you find the longer head pins? i have a guy at work that just might be able to make me some 3* 316 SS shims!
