I had an ARE MX installed at 600 mi so I don't have much pre-installation MPGs. Now with 16K mi the average MPG is 22.5 and climbing.

Its all about resistance an drag. If something is causing a drag it takes more energy to push it. Something with sleek lines an does not protrude upwards will not effect mileage other than weight. Which it takes a lot more weight to effect mileage.

When I added a shell, in stop and go traffic, I noticed a drop I'm assuming just from the added weight. On the highway, I did not have any loss of MPG. I do a lot of the same highway trips, cruise control, same traffic conditions so I had a lot to compare to. The truck has better aerodynamics with the cap than without. I only had a mid-rise cap, the ARE MX series so I can't comment if it was any better or worse than a cab-high cap would be.

If you put this on your truck I am sure it will change your MPG by a few miles....lol

Technically, punching the ground will have an effect on the earth itself. Nobody wants to count how many decimal places that is, but physics is physics.

I do not have a hi-top (ARE-V series), but I've recently bested the 26mpg tank that I got back in the fall when the truck was new and completely stock. So, perhaps temperature, road conditions, driving habits will have a greater impact than a cap.

Although, I did have a basket of coolers and such on my roof rack for a long trip. This absolutely murdered my mpg.

If I had it to do over again, I'd probably get an MX.

I would make a joke about how Sam was the gay one, but it would go over your head and you would then explain the obvious:rofl:

If you are trying to correct me, you are wrong. "affect" would be correct if it was used as a verb and not a noun.

    Example:

"punching the ground will affect the earth itself" ... is also correct.

Not sure what it is from either, but it reminds me of the faces I make when I'm pretending to be sober.

    Mostly stuff I built.
I don't have a shell on my truck but I can safely tell you that any thing you do to alter the aerodynamics is going to make you take a hit on mpg.

    IMG_2375.jpg
With my truck loaded like this on 2 trips from Waco,Texas to Padre Island national Seashore I got 21mpg. There is around 1000 lbs in the bed alone.
    IMG_3073.jpg
Loaded up like this on the same trip from Waco to P.I.N.S. I get 16-17 mpg. No real weight change but definitely a difference in my drag coefficient.

The biggest hit I took on my mpg over all was the addition of my roof rack about 1.5-2 mpg.

Sorry for being off topic a little but still useable information for some of the people on here.
