I'm scared to drop mine off for its 2 year maintenance. My truck is included in the recall (and I see seepage).

I need/want a truck (or at least an actual SUV) as a loaner, but I may just have to take what I can get. I'll probably get stuck with like a fucking Yaris or something.

When I was talking to a service guy (I was there buying my Pro grill), I was told they'd call me when they had a truck to loan me, but I'm not holding my breath as this was weeks ago. I may have to talk to them again soon and see what the deal is.

Apparently there were 4 kits that showed up at my dealership yesterday, so I should be getting the fix performed in the next week or so, its just a gasket and bolts and diff refill

Got mine back today. Took less than two weeks to get replaced but I was being stupid and didn't see calls from the dealership for 3-4 days. Work order shows they replaced the carrier gasket and pinion seal, which was stated to have "had poor tension" and was allowing fluid to leak out as well.

My Ram rental for 15 days was $523 all charged to the dealership.

Side note: they weren't able to recreate the clunking noise a lot of us are feeling when braking but, who knows, maybe the pinion seal replacement will magically fix whatever was causing that.

It appears "all" are receiving different info on when "the fix" is coming "The Fix" could be the next Drama on AMC...based on what I'm reading hear, sorry...But, my Dealer called me this morning and gave me word that the "regional engineering Rep" (what ever that is) dropped by and told them "The Fix" is in and parts will be at dealers in the next week or two...Who the fu*k knows but it's good drama... : )

    dealer letter and tech instructions.

don't shoot the messenger. and keep in mind that i am not here to answer all of your questions.

no, out of about 300 Tacoma's i've worked on, I have not seen any vehicles come in with a leaking diff yet.

WOW!!!!!!!! That middle picture on page #4 of the "Examples of oil leaks" look just like mine that the dealership said was NOT a leak.

And it even appears that Toyota calls seeping/weeping a leak like Cambridge and Merriam-Webster do. Who'd a thunk it??

I was advised that since mine is a substantial leak to not drive it or take possession of it until this has been resolved, and most importantly do not sign any waiver waiving any rights to responsibility should the differential go out and cause an accident.

    Hey Hawaii Guys,

I've counted about 12 Tacomas on the Mapunapuna Lot. You guys need to call the distributor who is Pacific Toyota, and make a complaint to have a case created. They've said I'm the first to call and are aware of the issue but have done nothing since no one is saying anything. I called and said that the dealer took my Truck away 30 days ago, and have not called to update or let me know of anything, no estimate, no nothing, and they stuck me in a stupid Rental Frontier when I'm making payments for a Tacoma. She also said that the next step would be the Lemon Law Process.....sigh..

There were a few other Tacomas there before mine, so those guys should really be pushing the Dealership to take action. Also, don't let them talk you into a trade in, they're going to tell you that they'll work with you because of your given case and that they just want to get you out of your Tacoma into something better, and then Bam! give you a crazy lowball trade in offer for your truck.

Sounds like things are coming along.

Will be very happy when I get my truck back. I'll give her a nice bath and whisper in her ear
